.45 ACP Hard cast SWC, will they work in ,45 Long Colt 45

Hi:

I have a box of 500 bullets, 200 grain,  45 ACP hard cast SWC in .451.... Will these bullets work in a 45 Long Colt. They certainly fit the casings ok.

In my reloading manuals, I see botrh .451 & .452 size for the 45 Long Colt. I want to try 10 grains of Unique, should give me a velocity some where around 1000 FPS. according to my manuals.

What do you guys think? I am reloading for a Taurus Judge, and I kept the brass long, and seated the bullets out as far as possible. Trying to cut down on that Looooonnng jump from the 2.5 inch Judge Cylinder to the forcing cone.

They should make good blasting ammo for your Judge. I'd probably slow them down to around 800fps or so. That's about the velocity they're designed for. I'd be concerned with leading at higher velocites.

i've been shooting 200 gr SWC 45 ACP bullets in my 45 LC because i have a couple thou of those bullets,no keyholing or anything like that so the fit the bore pretty good....i crimp em with a 45 acp taper crimp die,works pretty good...i also recommend you start with a charge that will give you about 800 fps,then maybe work up with 1/2 grain increases....i think my bullets are .452....have at it,might find a real sweet spot.....Mike

Thanks for the info. Actually I lucked out. The 10 grains of Unique is probably between 900 & 1000 FPS. I shot the new hand loads yesterday, I have to drag out the Chrony and make sure. I am just starting to get a little bit of leding, but easily removed. Very accurate at 7 yards for defensive load off hand.

Rememeber The Judge only has a 3 in. barrel. I kept the brass long, and seated the bullets way out. They are old Hornady 200 grain led SWC I bought probably ten years ago. The price is still on the box $28.29 for 500 bullets.. 

Those were the days huh...

I shoot the 230 grain lead round nose and just got 2000 in last week at a cost of $39.00 per 500.

Lead is about all I shoot in my pistol these days.

I shoot a lot of them in my 45 Colt as I have a six cavity mold and make about 500 to 1000 of them at a casting session.  They work in the colt and several 45 autos I own.

Same as nickss shot many with no problems at 50 ft. or so.
