Check out this 3 shot group at 550 yards I shot today!

Edges my previous best group at the same target.  I swear the left mark has two hits on it!  My third shot opened the group a tad.

Here's the older one, almost exactly an inch and .2 MOA:


Here's the one from today, in 20+mph winds, looks smaller to me:

I was shooting my Savage 110 with a 6mm Ackley barrel.  The pumpkins were targets.

I'm almost embarrassed one of the cheapest "custom" barrels you can get shoots so well.
FYI, it doesn't do too much better than this at 100 yards.

Some times it takes 100 yards or more for a bullet to "quite down". It will pitch and yaw until it gets so far out the barrel and then will settle in and shoot straight. That is why some times a barrel will shoot almost as well at long distance as it will at 100 yards. Some times "cheap" barrels can shoot very well. Some times factory barrels will shoot very well. I have a 223 barrel that is an A&B - it shoots lights out, as well as a Shilen match select barrel I have. The big names have a better percentage of their barrels shoot well, but some times they get a bad one too. Good Luck and Good Shooting

What bullet were you using? Berger, Matchking, Lapua?
The 6mm is awesome, it's got the records to show it too.

95 grain SMK.  It didn't like the same weight Berger, but it's only a 1-10" twist so the Bergers might have just tipped the scale on slightly unstable.

Nothing wrong with MatchKings, I love them. Every rifle I have shot them in loves em too, looks like you worked up a great load.
 What powder are you using?

47.5 grain IMR 4831

Velocity last fall was about 3400 fps, on Saturday it was 3300 fps.  I think my barrel may be going...
