Large Green eyes!!
« on: September 19, 2003, 04:40:53 AM »
I'm fishing at 4am every morning and traveling to my fishing spot I see deer all over but for few days now I seen something a lot bigger than a house cat or bobcat and it looked black but i'm not sure I never got close to be positive.  All I can remember is two big green eyes looking at me then as i approached in the car its gone before I get closer to see what it is.  I'm thinking maybe its a Fisher but i'm not sure.     BigBill

I have only seen one black panther, but most of the panters/mtn. lions I have seen have a greenish yellow eye.  I think it could be a possibility.

Another fisherman there told me about a black panther when we were talking about mountainlions and bobcats being there.  And I really didn't think anything of it.  This is in a large wooded forest type area but now with more houses being built its pushing them out of the woods more.  All these animals are making a comeback for sure and i don't have a clue what they are going to do about it.  With an increase of missing pets on the rise I guess people being attacked is next.  It will be interesting to see what happens with the animal lovers/protecters when someone gets attacked.  I'm sure the hunt will be on then for sure.  The only thing that saves us here is the big deer population there is plenty of food for them right now.                                                           BigBill

When I was able to ride dirtbikes with my son we constantly came across bones from stray dogs who were eaten by something. We figured it was coyotes but now who knows?  I always made sure I had a new sparkplug in the bike you just never know?  Don't stop keep flying!!!!  I've seen bears from the bike once as I passed by!! Talk about turning it up a knotch I wasn't cookin food!!!

Could have been a black bear. Were they wide set? I've seen black bear eyes glow green when a flashlight hits them.

UPDATE: At a internet mountainlion reporting site there is reports that support my thoughts its a "fisher".   Beaware of fishers they aren't your normal over sized house cat they are really mean!!!   These flatlanders here are walking up on them thinking their safe.  Repeat these are the fastest North American tree climbing mammal and looking at the fangs and claws plus they have the speed they are a killing machine for sure.  Just a word use caution when you see one.               BigBill

I actually heard one first it has a screech type shrill that you won't believe possible and you will never forget too.  I have been made fun of until they heard one then its a different story then I'm laughing at them. But some wildlife guys say they don't let out a shrill? I seen one dead a few years back its much larger than a house cat and little bigger than a bobcat.   Its either black or dark grayish but i heard some are redish color too.  I have only seen glimses of them on the side of loggin trails then their gone.  At night I found them to be very bold and have no fear.  Some think their cute and walk up on them not a good thing to do.  The size is if you took a black house cat and blew him up to 30+ pounds somewhere in that range of course size may vary to habitat/food.  The only thing I seen here in CT. is a dark color like black with large green eyes while I never seen a Fisher in my headlites its the first thing I thought of it was but wasn't sure.  To me it looks to be in the Badger or Wolverine family do a search for Fisher cat  and click on the first story in NH it has pics.   Also look at the different sites on that search there are mentions of fishers making horrible screeches and shrill type noises.                                                            BigBill

They have come into my camp got on the roof of my trailer and tried to claw their way in thru the roof vent and chimney pipe outlet.   I hollered to it but it just continued to claw it doesn't seem too afraid just bold. With me sitting there with my sks w/30rd mag and my 44mag handgun it would be too pretty if it got in?  I'm sure it would sound like walking into George Pattons army for sure.  The only thing is my poor trailer would be air conditioned?
