92 vs 94
« on: June 03, 2009, 09:17:20 PM »
Got a 92 emf in 357 I love, and thinking about another 357 levergun in a scout setup. I can get a Marlin 1894C NIB for just a bit more than a new EMF/Rossi, and wondering what the gain would be if any. All opinions welcome.

Just my $0.02 - Zero diff, in a scout setup; big difference, scoped conventionally.

BTW - I just bought a new BrazTech/Rossi M92 Puma .357 16", and found four D/T'd holes hiding under it's rear sight longleaf, presumably a factory prep on all the .357 barrels for the scout setup.

I just installed filler plug screws, since I removed the rear barrel sight for peeping - but woulda rather the factory hadn'ta done that.

So........... You can buy a Rossi set up for a scout scope from the factory, but besides tagging for more $$$$, an 1894 Marlin will incur extra cost for a LeverScout mount, fitting (if it's not self-done), and a peep to replace the rear barrel sight.

I'm with you Rangr44, why would they do that to all of them? Marbles makes a rear sight that folds down flat on the barrel, I think I would spend the cash for one just to cover up the holes. If your peep goes sideways at least you'll have a back up sight!

TeamNelson, you can not go wrong with either in my book, I went with the Marlin 1894CB for my first .357 lever. Like you, I liked it so much that I bought a Puma .357 that was on sale at Big5 too! They are both fine rifles, if I had to just keep one it would be the Marlin, it costed more, I love the octagon barrel and it is better in the fit & finish. They both shoot equally well though.

In 357 I've never read about a bad marlin in any setup.  The advantage of getting another rossi would be an extra set of parts if you were in a pinch.  Either would be a great rifle.

I just picked up a new Rossi .357 and had also noticed the holes in the barrel.  Anyone know what mount fits that spacing??  It would be nice to be able to just put any scope on for load development off the bench!
