Using a Rimfire scope for a .243
« on: June 05, 2009, 05:08:43 AM »
I have a simmons rimfire scope....  Do you think it can handle the recoil from my .243 handi-rifle?
thanks

If it is a fixed power it probabally will.  They are much tougher than variables.  Check out the aritcle in Guns and Ammo.  The author states that he has tested many scopes and broken many, both cheap and expensive but he has never seen a fixed power break from recoil.

I think that most scopes for .22 use are set to focus at 50 yards but centerfire scopes can be focused at much longer ranges.  I read this many years ago and it may not be true today.

this scope is AO (Adjustable objective) meaning that this focal length can be changed....so thats not an issue.  The only problem that I'm concerned with is whether or not the scope  can handle to recoil of a .243.

If it was a higher end scope probably, but probably not with a Simmons. I wouldn't want to go thru mounting it, sighting in, etc to have it take a dump after 20-30 shots.
