Tracers

Got a 30 06, a pile of M2 ball and the internet. I see M25 tracers for under 10 cents each. Thinking of pulling the fmj's and putting it tracers. Anybody have an opinion?

The M25 tracer uses a longer bullet than the M2 ball. Don't substitute the bullet.

Also, if your rounds start a fire, you'll pay the supression costs.

Smoking joe told you right... The tracer is a longer bullet. Our range will not let you shoot tracers at all. NOT A GOOD IDEA. Save your money and perish the thought.

Depending on the State you live in the discharge of a tracer can be treated as a misdemeanor or you can be prosecuted for discharging a dangerous device which can be treated as a felony.

If you pull the loaded Ball ammo and replace them with the longer tracer ammo, you very well might have pressure problems. I did with some Mil. Ammo I had so I refurbished the supplies and all is well.

All you net lawyers, give it a rest.

I have about 200 pulled US .308 tracer bullets. I shoot them in my .30/30 Marlin (single load), in all kinds of .308's and .30/06's. I used standard loadings for the bullet weight and they light just fine. No damage to any firearm.

They are capable of starting fires under ideal conditions so be mindful of the impact area.

When seated to factory OAL they feed and cycle perfectly through my Remington Woodsmaster 742 carbine in .308.

Shot one at an informal 500 yard match through my Model 70 .308 F class Palma rifle and didn't tell my spotter. He was watching through a 20X spotting scope. "What in the hell was that?" came the question from his incredulous face. I laughed 'til I thought I would pee myself. They are very much visible even during the brightest part of the day.

I don't see any Net Lawyers here right now. I see a few FACTS. It's true that the tracers are longer that the ball bullet. If you want to substitute the slug, knock yourself out..................

Other than fun factor what is the  purpose in shooting them in a Handi rifle ???(not being a smart#$@) I can't see them being sub MOA ;D

That all being said, If you would be interested in selling....I have a 1919a4 that would be interested in them ::)

tracers are not as likely to start a fire under most conditions, I have some API 50 ammo that will definately light up just about anything though :o
