The drive pully on my 1 inch sander grinder blew up this morning. Pieces of plastic pully all over the shop. I am in need of a drive pulley PN: 926-11-991-9441 for a Rockwell 1 inch sander grinder Model 31-352. All the online sources say no longer available.

I tried www.mikestools.com but they don't have it. Anyone have another source for obsolete parts

Might check if a Kalamazoo one will fit. I think they're both 1/2" shafts but I don't know if the OD is the same or not...

Thanks Victor, it's worth a try. As I get my shop equipment set up and running I am finding age, moving all over the country and use has been pretty rough on it. Lots of little stuff.

The lathe kept tripping a breaker...found the motor mounts bolts had come loose and the motor was jumping when started. The drive belt on my lathe makes me realy nervous it's frayed. I don't even want to think about what it will take to change.

I was adjusting the table on the drill press the other day and the clamp nut stripped.

It goes on.

Then this morning I woke up to this.

Early 1980's Jet 1236 P. The headstock bearings have to be pulled to get the belt on.

There is a style of belt that is made of little loops linked to the next. A bit more expensive than a vee belt BUT it BOTH lasts MUCH longer and is more efficient (more transmitted HP). Look in the standard catalogs (MSC, McM-Carr, etc.)

Is this the type of belt that doesnt require the pulling of the head stock gearing?

These dimensions are for the sander pulley? What style/size belt does it use? Can always make a pulley. Sure the shaft hole isn't .625"?

The sander pulley that broke, is it a flat drum type that the sanding belt rides on or a V belt pulley? If it's a flat drum pulley, it can possibly be made from a piece of solid round with a 5/8" hole bored in it.

Actually George it probably is .625. It drives the sanding belt. From my research on the net, it appears a lot of people are looking for the various pulleys for this machine.

I looked into buying the material to make the pulley and choked at the price. I can get a new machine cheaper.

Can you post a pix of the old pulley? There are several of us that have lathes - and there are a LOT of odd pieces of aluminum and such that are scrap-pile free.

If someone had a piece of 3 1/2 in. dia scrap aluminum round, Could make the pully on my lathe as long as the belt doesn't break first.

DD, I think we have a solution for your 1" belt sander. We have a Delta, Model 406-00-752-001. Looks like parts for it will fit your machine. The two large pulleys are 3.450 dia. with .625" axle holes. The two small pulleys are 1.990" dia. with .500" axle holes. These pulleys are crowned, black, polycarbonate with sealed bearings and a composite sleeve that fits the axle shafts. There are no individual parts no.s visible, but a Delta dealer should have a parts list for this popular machine.

Although the pulleys are slightly different O.D.s from your pulley's O.D., the amount of adjustment for tensioning should more than make up for the delta in sizes.

Looks like the pulley is crowned slightly? How is it anchored to the shaft? This should be easy although it won't be exactly the same (no webs.)

I have PLENTY of rounds that are 3-4-5 inches in diameter, usually 4" or so long. Cheap to mail too.

I do like your idea....I tired searching for your sander and I could not find that model. That looks more like a part number any way. I tried searching that with no results also.

I think we are on the right track here.

Manufacturing industry rule of thumb: if someone else makes the part, buy it rather than try to make it.

Tim, A more wise Rule of Thumb I don't believe exists, unless it is the one GGaskill mentioned recently,
which I will paraphrase, "When you contemplate making something, remember, it will cost twice as much and take three times as long as your initial estimate". I hate to admit how many times I have ignored the first rule and been totally oblivious of the second!!

Just so you don't get the wrong impression, the parts I have available, are replacements for those parts, and not those actual parts themselves. I have a more detailed description with some photos, can be seen at this link on Ebay.

Take it as information, I replaced two idler pulleys and then my drive pulley started coming apart. Always something to do.

I posted because I am also looking for parts for my Delta 31-350 sander. the email I quoted from Jim Liechty was the only reasonable source I found, I will probably buy the drive wheel from him when he recovers from open heart surgery. I found this thread on a google search and decided to share information, if I broke protocol please accept my apologies.
