Just sent off my note to Senator Saland urging that he oppose this one. It is headed to the Senate foor, and it could be a test of all the anti gun bills to follow. Please write to your senator now. It's so easy to contact them these days.

From what I understand we could lose Kimber Arms if it passes.

I e-mailed Senator Hugh Farley asking him to oppose a listing of anti-gun proposals that the NRA sent out which listed both the assembly and senate bills currently under proposal in the house that may be headed toward the senate.

The Senator's response was pro-gun/pro-hunter/pro-conservation.  I've known this Senator for about 20 years and know him to support us - he has far too many constituents in upstate hunting areas to go the other way.

My senator responded similarly and he too is always a good supporter of the 2nd.

However, as some of you may know by now, it is a whole new ballgame in our dysfunctional state capital. Two democrats (one from the Bronx and one from Queens) flipped over to the Republican party today. That could be huge for gun bills! And perhaps will help to retain some resemblance of common sense in Albany.

Two democrats (one from the Bronx and one from Queens) flipped over to the Republican party today.
Not to nit pick, but they didn't switch parties;  They got togeather with Republicans and decided to call for a vote to determine leader of the Senate.  Kind of like a hostile take-over.  They are still Demorats .  There are likely more Dems. that feel the same way but don't feel secure enough to be so bold as their first obligation is to themselves to get re-elected.  It has always been assumed that the party in power will lead the senate but in reality it is the person who gets the majority of votes.  Bottom line;  We still have a dysfunctional goernment.  I'm not sure if it's the gun bills or the gay marriage bill or some combination of assinine bills the Demorats are trying to shove down our throats.

You are correct rebAl. My source of info was not completely accurate. I got the whole scoop earlier today. Regardless, it will be interesting to see what happens. And at least for now it is likely that our dysfunctional state government will not pass any anti gun bills.

You're right, it was a hostile takeover.  When the smith majority left the chambers and turned off the lights, including locking the door, they had neglected to end the session, which gave estrada and company the opportunity to make the changes, which blindsided smith and his majority.  They are no longer in power.  estrada has the power now and as a result, the smith faction is threatening a lawsuit.  This would not be too bad for us as they will be too busy trying to settle their own house rather than proposing or passing bills.  On one hand this is good for us but on the other hand it is doubtful any business will be conducted at all.

Truely this is the most dysfunctional state government in the history of the US.  Anybody notice how mr. cuomo is keeping his head down and his mouth shut during this entire fiasco??  He was tops on the list to knock paterson out of office in the next election but he may well be seen as just another (dysfunctional) democrap by the voters.  Although hugely embarrassing this will be something to watch.....
