Recommendations for .38 wadcutters

Who makes good, affordable 148 gr. wadcutters for .38 spl?  Also, do you always load WC flush with the case mouth?

I'm Chomping at the bit to try the Berry's plated wadcutters I bought 1K of. The price is good and when I asked everyone who's used them swear by em.

As for crimping it depends on the wadcutter and the application. The old Speer's has a crimp groove just shy of the bullet's cutting edge. The only guns the are a must  crimp  the case mouth over the bullet are semiautomatic 38 special handguns

Lyman has made several great "wad cutter" bullet molds, but I prefer a Keith-type semi wadcutter.

You'll have to decide whether its cheaper [and easier] to buy cast bullets or make your own.  Some designs use gas checks and other ones do not.

Do a web search for Zero brand bullets.  They have been in business a long time but until recently never sold in lots of less than 500.

Over the years I have used Hornady, Speer & Star 148 gr HBWC's. When I started shooting PPC in the early 80's I started making my own with a Lyman 4 cavity 358091 148 BBWC mold. These cast bullets proved to be as accurate or more accurate then the factory made ones. My Custom PPC gun, my S&W K-38 & my Colt Officer Model Target guns all shot the bullets very well. My load was 2.7 grs of Bulleye under these bullets.
I started loading these bullet flush for easy feeding in PPC competition. And I still am loading them all that way. Never saw a difference in accuracy by seating them flush. Also use a taper crimp die.

I've been happy with Missouri Bullet Company's wadcutters, very good prices and they seem quicker than most for shipping.  Their standard size is .357 but last time I ordered they had .358 dia in stock.  I don't seat them flush - really no reason unless you are using something like a S&W auto pistol - and there is a crimp groove about .150" from each end IIRC.  No affiliation, just satisfied customer.

I really like the Hornady hollow base wadcutters and I crimp over the leading edge of the bullet.  They seem to lead less than Speer's offering. Haven't tried any other brand. I don't do serious competition - mostly plinking and a little grouse hunting with them.  I think I usually use the std 2.7 to 2.8 gr Bullseye or an equivalent load with Red Dot.  Haven't loaded any in a few years - did a big loading project and still have a supply.
