Bipods for Contender
« on: June 08, 2009, 02:29:50 AM »
I'm going to get a bipod for my Contender.  I've always heard of Harris, are there any others brands that you guys prefer over Harris?  Also I was wondering if the leg notch option and the swivel option were a plus or minus.  All opinions appreciated, Jim

I use a tripod.  Its neat because you can use it standing or sitting.  Didn't cost me anything since it is the same one i use for video shoots and doesn't add any weight to the gun plus you can us it for rifles.

Comes down to personal choice for me.

I only use Harris standard leg swivel bipods for bench/prone shooting (HBR-S & HBL-S) and Verne Howey shooting sticks for sitting/kneeling.   I also modify the Harris bipods with a custom lever lock on the swivel and custom oversized knurdled lock knob for the QD that a machinist friend made up several sets of for me years ago.    Harris now offers the lever as the Pod Lock upgrade.

There are others sold cheaper that I am sure are servicable bipods, but I don't buy them.    Been using Harris too long to change this late in the game.

  • You mean this isn't the road to the shooting range

Yep, the HBR-S works for other specialty pistols as well.

I know it sounds a bit "hick-ish" but I get a rock solid rest from a couple of 3-4 ft sticks or dowel rods lashed together with twine about 6-8" one end.  Adjustable for height by spreading the legs farther apart, hold the center of the "X" with your off-hand and set the butt of the G2 on my forearm.  Next to no cost and if I lose it, no problem.

My 2cents,
Sean

I'll give the sticks a try, I'm all for something that's simple, cheap, and works.   ;D
