I am so old I forgot what we did after school--if there was school, even.
Computers? Didn't exist--- I recall fire being the hottest thing going. We made it ourownselves.
What was we talkin about? Honey, where are my meds?

Heather, I have children much older than you, and grandchildren not far behind.  Believe me, we have had the best for the last couple of decades.  I've gone from toilet outside to grilling outside, from no tv at all to digital.  What a ride!!!!!

I don't remember what we did after school exactly either, but I know it did not involve electronics........

I played in the yard after school.  Sometimes the neighborhood kids would come over and we would play ball of some sort or some kind of pretend battle scenario.  I had a tv, but didn't watch it often.  I was too busy playing and exploring the neighborhood.  We got a computer when I was in High School and I got on the net to play cards with my friends sometimes.

 I went to a school that had computers in every classroom and a couple of computer labs.  I started playing on them in the second grade.  Not every school in the area had them, but we were a test school of some sort.  It was neat, but if you had told me back then that I would be sitting in my living room having a discussion with someone in another state or country I would have told you, you were crazy.  Times have changed so much just in my short lifetime that I can only imagine what you gentlemen have seen.

  as far as im concerned i grew up an old in probably the best of the golden years for this country...i remember telling people ,,if a man didn t work in this country ,,it was only because he didn t want to.. not so now...
  i had lotta wins an losses,,but life was full.... full of working dawn to dusk an enjoying life with 5 good kids an a good women...
  the sad part is so many people i knew are passed on or getting close..
  heck i served johny cash chili in a nashviell reasturant back when he was in big drug trouble... then got to see him become a big tv star.. now hes gone on..
 its just life... we work hard ,,burn bright for a while then slowly ,,for most,, the fire burns down... but i wouldn t have missed it for nothin. .... i honestly wake up some mornings ,,,an it takes a bit before i remember im not in the race anymore.....slim :)

Thanks JR , You just had to go and remind me that I'm getting old  ;D , all the cartoons you listed are now on the Classic's Channel and the lunch boxes are going for BIG $$s on e-bay as an-teeeeeks .

Honestly , thanks for the trip down a road I have not seen in many years !  ;)

Stimpy, glad you liked it.  My kid wont watch the 'old' cartoons,,only the new stuff for him, he doesn't know what he's missing.  And I hate to think about how many lunch boxes I ruined blowing em up with M80s and firecrackers, or providing a home for one of many 'pets' that I'd caught down at the pond.  Boy if I had em all back to sell on ebay, I just maybe could retire on day. JR

I was born in '77, but I remember Bill from capitol hill, doublemint twins, Juicy Fruit and Marlboro commercials, and used to pick up pop bottles for spending money; I'd take 'em to the Co-op grain elevator to buy more pop, which was always better with peanuts in it.

Thanks for the flashback I wasnt born till 79 but I still remember all that stuff.  I still got a scare on my knee where I jumped out the window of my mom's car thinking I was Duke of Hazard, remember playing Atari and when Nentendo came out, also how about Tandy computers in school and playing Oregon trail on them.

I remember getting our first TV set, only one station in Jackson, MS then. All we could pick up from 60 miles away. Being a teen in Mis-sippi in the 60s was like the 50s in the outside the south east. Was fun.
Watch the old cartoons now and you see how much many of them were over the kids heads, risque.

It's wierd, watching shows like "Happy Days" now; I never knew they dealt with issues like sex back then. I thought all that crap started when I was in Junior High.

I can remember WWII, Korea and all after that becomes a blur.
TV's were not around until I was in Hi school.
Now I was of the generation that gave you the 70's. Least we could do. ;)
My mother saw Airplanes come in.
I like indoor plumbing and don't want that too stop, but the rest of this leaves me kinda cold, really.
Can you really remember eating out of a garden?
We played football in the front yard of an old man's house, kept the yard almost in dirt and they never complained, or even when we took a breather and sat in the chairs or swing on their front porch. Try that today.
Hummmmm, seems like yesterday. Drove by that old house recently---I saw a shadow of myownself out there.

Lot's of nastalja here William, thanks for bringing back good memories...does not seem like there was ever a (we are bored, what can we do?) time. Work ethics were also taken seriously as it was a proud moment when one had earned enough money say by the fourth or fifth grade to buy School supplies & clothing for the upcoming school year. I believe that on the first year of doing this I still had enough left over to buy a brand new Zebco 202 outfit!

I can remember pumping gas at my dad's store,FleetWing, regular-.26/gal.-ethyl/.28gal.  When somebody wanted a 6 pk. of beer, they were regular .02 bottle's, and a cardboard Dr. Pepper holder, 6 empties went into a case, and 6 came out of the cooler. We had a black and white tv in the back room, 2 channels,11 and 13. And once in a great while,maybe channel 2 or 7 out of Detroit. Remember watching Mantle, Maris,Kaline,Kilabrew hit alot of home runs on the game of the week on Saturday's. Test pattern after the news on the weekends, Jack Paar, then Johnny Carson during the week. That was a few years ago. God, those were good days. Back to the future, time to work.  gypsyman
