.219 zipper
« on: June 15, 2009, 05:45:21 AM »
Picked up a 336 this weekend. Manufactured in 1959. It has a nickle plated receiver and the rest of the gun appears to be originial blue.
2/3 magazine.Does anyone know if this was made this way?

;) I don't think this is an original creation from Marlin. I remember looking at that rifle in the books in those days and as far as I know that did not exist from the factory, BUT I could be wrong. The Marlin in the Zipper is a rare rifle. Does it have the heavy barrel???? I looked for one for a long time, when I finally found one the price was unreal. Decided I would rebarrel one, but got off on to other project and never did it. Should be a fun gun. ;) :)

It has the heavy bdl. about 80% finish on the rest of the metal. The nickle is flaking on the receiver.
There is a source for ammo here in Fla. Going to get some dies to get ready to reload. I know Midway has brass also.
Considering refinishing the gun if nickle is not original

Howdy,
Cool find! I saw a new 336 in .219 at a gun show about three years ago. Perhaps Davidson's ordered a limited run. I passed on it. Nuts!

Talked to Marlin yesterday, they won't refinish it because it was made in '59.Obviously the nickle is not original, though a factory refinish
would have been the way to go.
