Finally got my 357 Mag back from Illion.
« on: June 15, 2009, 06:43:15 PM »
It took over 5 months from the time I sent my receiver in to Illion to get fitted with a 357 Mag
barrel. I also ordered a new forend to have as a dedicated one for this barrel and a Monte Carlo
pallet wood stock. Well it finally arrived today without the forend and a straight comb stock.  >:(
To say that I'm disappointed with the way Remington handled this whole deal would be an
understatement. I won't be sending anything in to Remington again. It would have been nice if
Remington didn't ruin a good thing and left H&R alone where they were instead of trying to re
invent the wheel by moving everything to Illion. They had a great system at Gardner with
fantastic friendly customer service and super quick turnarounds. I hope others here have had
better results than I have.

I haven't got a clue as to how they can mess up such a simple order.  I can understand the 5 month turn around, because the .357s were out of inventory.

For the forseeable future, I'm keeping my Handi dealings right here in our own classifieds.

You would think that a company like Remington would be on top of this and get it fixed but I guess not.

Sorry to read that Robert, I'd call them and have them make it right at their expense, they should ship you the furniture you ordered.

Greedy Corporate "Bean Counter's" and there "Corporate Lawyers" have laid waste to many American Business's in the last 30 years.
Lets just hope this does not happen to Remington.

sorry to hear about your problems, seems like it happens too much as of late.

I has a similar experience, ordered some new stocks, and a few other parts, all of it was wrong. Sent it back on their dime, got it back, most of it was wrong.
finally just cancelled the order, and sent back all the wrong peices again. I really hope things improve.

Back at the old gardner plant, I lost a key for my choke tube, so i was going to order one, they sent me one free of charge, no shipping cost either.
I miss the good ol days. they were always freindly helpful and most importantly knowledgable about the product.

I hate waiting on hold for 40min just to talk to a human, and for gods sake they have to change that MUSIC!!!!! :o :o

Got excited about getting in to Handis and planned out a 357 Max BC. Slowly found the stock, then a frame, still looking for a barrel or something close enough. But after 8 months looking, and reading about customer service, wait times, etc. ... It also seems to me the future of Handi is mainly scoped barrels on synthetic furniture which is not for me. It may be there's a nice BC frame and stocks up for sale here soon.

Yea, I'm sorry too Tim. Believe me, I don't like to report bad things like this. I would like nothing
more than to report that everything went fine, they did a great job, great customer service....,
but sadly that's not the case. These are truly great rifles. It is a shame Remington threw a monkey
wrench into a well run operation in the name of progress. The last time I called their customer
service I was on hold for 25 minutes before I was able to speak to someone in North Carolina
who had no idea what was going on in Illion New York. I'm really pissed off right now at these
people, so I think it would be a good idea not to call them right now and start screaming at some
poor customer service guy who had no part in this. I'm almost to the point where I don't even want
to talk to them ever again.

It looks OK. It doesn't matter though because I'm going to ream it out to 357 Max.
I decided I don't want to deal with Remington anymore. I'm done with them. I'll get
another forend somewhere else. To anyone who anyone who is thinking about
sending your receiver in to be fitted with a new barrel, I wish you all the best.
Some folks here have received a quick turnaround and were very happy with the
service they got. That wasn't the case with me, but that's the way it goes sometimes
I guess.

Did you aleady pay for the forend?  If so I would be all over their butts to rectify the situation.  Either get your money back or get your forend + at the minimum, a new gun case or ball cap or t-shirt for you trouble.  I deal with customers everyday and when somebody isn't happy with our service, you'd better bet we are hopping to fix it when they notify us.

Bottom line is that if you aren't pleased w/ the service at remington and all you do about it is gripe to us about it (not trying to be offensive by that) then remington will never know they screwed up.  The squeaky wheel gets the grease my friend... Were it mine I'd call them 2x a week until I got results.

Singleshotsam,

No offense taken. However, here is my take on this:
You and me differ on this my friend.
I choose not to deal with these people anymore. If this is how they choose to do business with
some of their customers, then so be it. No amount of swag, be it gun cases, t shirts, or ball caps,
or anything else will ever make it right with me.  No one can buy me like that. I also refuse to wait
up to 40 minutes just for the privilege of talking to one of their customer service people in North Carolina
who doesn't have the foggiest idea what is going on in Illion anymore than I do. Like I said
before, I'm done with them. Whoever chooses to deal with them, God bless you! I hope it works
out for you, and I wish you nothing but the best. Like I also said before, several people here
have had great results and quick turnarounds.  I hope that happens for you. I still love Handi rifles
to death. This is a great forum with a fantastic bunch of folks. Y'all have to be one of the most
knowledgeable and friendly group of firearms owners I have ever seen anywhere. :) Anyone
whoever has a question here will get answered. I consider it an honor to be a member here.

I am sorry for the P.I.T.A., you have had to deal with.
It is an internal lack of communication that is causing these problems.
I can't say it's the good people of NC that are to blame..(they have been dropped a huge acquisition into their hands, they most likely know only what they are told).. but a better over all communication needs to be implanted for these issues to be resolved.
In any case it needs to be cleaned up and fast.

Arron,
I don't blame the folks in North Carolina. They can only relay what information is given to them
by the powers that be. I think a step in the right direction would be to have the customer
service based at Illion instead of North Carolina. People can say that wouldn't any
difference, but we all know there is no substitute for being where the rubber meets the
road instead of several hundred miles away looking at a computer screen. Then maybe
encourage the customer service people to go down on the shop floor on a regular basis
and talk to the people who work on the firearms to get a feel for what is really going on.
And something definitely has to be done about the ultra long waits on the phone  to
speak to customer service with that music that drives everyone nuts! There is no excuse
for that. When a company puts consolidation ahead of customer satisfaction, which should
always be the main mission of a successful company by the way, then they set themselves
up for a lot of problems in my opinion.

Robert, I just don't think it works that way anymore :'( I said a few months ago, MAYBE the best thing that may come out of this p!$$ poor economy would be better business ethics HA! Wonder how this happened.  I think business people need to starve a little bit and not sure if that would help. They would just blame it on everything else and still treat customers like we owe them MORE. Give them a bailout. I've had constant problems buying things for years now and it just seems to be MY FAULT for wanting to buy things. There doesn't seem to be any excuse for what I have been reading here but even the company I am working for now is about the same. I was self employed for over 20 years and the situation just gets worse. Had a good experience today and was SHOCKED! Treated like a Human being not just a wallet. Sorry you had to go through this. Might have to get used to it though.
