Do we get a post trip report on the Garmin Nuvi? I knew that you wanted to give it a better run for the money but had to put off the side trips after the shoot. Good part is that it is still early summer & you can get on the highway again!

Actually it would be nice to have a report from Graybeard, and from Mrs. Graybeard. :)
There is a learning process to effectively using a gps.  Do not throw your compass and map away!

It still has some real weird little quirks but over all it was a major help on the trip.

It got me thru Memphis a city I was dreading with absolutely no problems. Each instruction it gave was dead on and given in plenty of time to be sure I was in the proper lane to make it. Just that alone probably made it worth the cost.

I wish I could say the same for OK City but there a couple of times it had me wondering right up until I had to make a decision right or left and each time I made the correct one and I'll give it the credit really tho the instructions were to me just a wee bit confusing but then so was the road. It was at times when the road split then immediately split again. I wasn't aware in advance it would so an instruction such as bare left then right had me wondering but as I got into it the instructions made enough sense to get me in the correct lane each time.

Getting me thru both without being lost was for sure worth the cost.

It still seems to mess up royal when first taking off from a location it just doesn't seem to know quite where it is at such times.

One of the worst was when we left Guyman for the trip home. It took me off the main stret onto a two block long side street that dead ended right back on same road I had just left and then really didn't tell me whether to turn left or right. I decided to ignore it and just go where I knew I could find the road I wanted to be on.

Then when I ran into construction and needed to find a route around it back to where I was headed previously it kept trying to take me back to OK City a place I definitely did NOT want to go. It didn't have the city I was trying to reach in the database at all which seemed odd.

Over all in spite of the few odd quirks it has it was a huge help on the trip but at times it sure didn't help when help was needed and at other times it seemed flawless. I don't know if these are just quirks of this unit or this line or what.

Thanks!...One day I will tire of downloading routes into my field unit and giving some of the waypoints (creative names) so as to know what to do at that point and I will purchase an automotive unit.
What I liked about your unit was the ability to punch in a coordinate as Sam was saying in the video.

I do get befuddled now & again using the hand held but one of my favorite tricks is to pull over & fire up the lap top with my mapping software. this lets me enter the Lat/Long as said by the gps to get an exact fix on my location. Kind of primitive but very effective.
