Good morning, Montanan, MT_Sourdough, dpe, Southpaw, Forster, Atlaw, pab1, newstart2k, Skunk, kitchawan kid, lurker, CJ, Bilmac,thxmrgarand, Syncerus, Mcwoodduck, Brennemanj83, Old Shooter,TY22, Canon6, burntmuch, Grimjim, CJ, Bilmac, rparsons934 wis_sharpshooter, BBF, Blue Duck, billy_56081, hunt-m-up, Gun Runner and Chilachuck.

Well, I hope I have a much better day to day than yesterday. The day is starting of pretty nice. Clear blue skies, no wind, 55 degrees. I have to run up to Southpaws this morning and check on the Targets for the upcoming shoot. We have to figure out a base for the Cannon targets.

Just had an email last night from the fellow in Michigan who was making our rook and rabbit targets for the shoot. He races bikes and had a mishap on the track. Another racer fell right in front of him and he hit the other guys bike at about 70 mph.. He was thrown from his motorcycle and landed on his head. It's fairly seriousHe has two crushed vertebrae, a broken collar bone and three broken ribs. Ernie, was I perseptive? We are going to need the gophers.

Good Morning Montana!

Very nice weather lately here in NE Wisconsin. Lots of Sun, rather warm, and just a few sprinkles every now and then.

Bought a new stock for my .223 Rem. I wanted to stay with the short rifle look since the rifle has a 20" barrel, so I ended up getting the H-S Precision Pro-Series M24 Police-Urban Tactical Thumbhole (wow, that's a mouthful). It's just like the full size version except the forearm has been shortened to give it an overall length of 29.5":

My son-in-law is a craftsman with a spray gun and has offered to paint the stock up for me. So the next step will be to get some Dura-Coat and some stencils. Think I'll go with GAP or Rhodesian Camo:

Nice day here also! 'course I'm locked in my office...

Gonna try to swing some range time this week, but we ain't got none a them cute little ground squirrel type critters y'all call gophers!
Our gophers got a hard shell and dig holes for rattlesnakes... $:-\$

My wife said she wants to see Montana... came right outa the blue.

Maybe it's 'cause we just watched "Lonesome Dove."

Stock looks good with out the camo. maybe a few color strips here or there.
Had a cousin paint up his 10/22 and leaned it up against a tree to take a ... To answer the call of Nature.
Well it was getting dark and he forgot what tree he leaned it up against and has yet to find the thing.
When you do Camo it up. Keep a red bandana or some orange string in your pocket. Tie it to the barrel if you set it down or lean it up against something and walk away for a minute or two.

Mcwoodduck, that's very sound advice. I've known a couple fellows who lost their camo colored rifle, though, they were lucky enough to find them after a frantic little search.

In my case, it's probably going to be awhile until it's painted. I want to get it shooting really well with a number of different loads first, then we'll put the paint to it. It's the first thumbhole stock I've ever owned. Feels excellent so far, but I haven't shot the rifle with it yet.

I would paint it and then get it dialed in.
Only because even if you use a torque wrench to the exact specs when reassembeling the rifle. the added paint will cause different stress points on the action, no matter how small and will throw the rifle off a little but.
in Feb I removed a 6-18 X 40 scope from a 22 Hornet and replaced with a 3-9X38. And it changed the ammo the rifle likes. All I did was un screw 8 screws. Did not even touche the scope mounts to the rifle, just the two screws on each side of the mount.
If you are going to paint it. paint it. Or add camo pattern to the whole gun. A little here and there just tape off the scope optics and a foam ear plug works great in the hole the bullet comes out of.

Richard, right now is the correct time to be here for gophers and touristing in Montana.

The correct color for a gunstock camo here in the gopher fields is John Deere green with a yellow stripe!

Did we miss the snow? I was showing Kathie the "Pictures of Montana" and it was all Ohhh's & Ahhh's until we got to the ones of snow.

Then her face scrunched up and she said "I don't know about that..."

I was talkin on the phone with my So. Jawja huntin buddy about it this morning. He says we ought to pack up the wife mates and fly out there this month ... Custer Battlefield and all that. I need more vacation days though... He don't understand that since both he and his wife are retired...

The humidity is pretty high down here... just stand outside a few minutes and you be sweating like a prostitute in a prayer meeting... Helps get rid of that excess water weight though...

Double D, not sure if you were kidding or not, but I just love the John Deere Green and Yellow on Laminated Stocks. You might just have something there:

Yep, about thirty feet or so above sea level, when it clears out at night and we get the right kind of breeze, it gets cold. We get summer here, well it would be late spring temps for you southern types, July,Aug and into the third week of Sept. at best. But I do like Autumn, not cold and the bugs are gone.
