Jim:  most holster makers offer one.  I think Bianci does, Midway does, almost all of them.  You can prolly find a good e-mail address from one of these sights.  HTH.  Mikey.

ps:  I'm sure this is for concealment but would caution you about carrying that much weight in the small of your back - most SOB holsters I have seen don't allow for inside the belt or pants carry back there, they mount on the belt.  Also, most of them are hard leather with reinforcing that would leave a larger 'hump' on the small of your back than you might imagine.  If you are just looking for something to set that 1911 in so it stays in one place, possibly a soft holster that would just hold it there may suffice.  Bauer makes those - they aren't quick draw but the piece stays concealed.  HTH.  Mikey.

Dillon sells a leather SOB holster called the CYA. If you think you really want one. It's about $55.

I had one of these that I carried a Browning Hi-Power in, years ago.  I was working in a gunshop at the time, and it made a convenient way to carry my pistol at work.

One night I got home from work, let the dog out, and we romped around in the back yard for a bit before going inside.  I went inside, and as my usual practice, went to put my gun up on the refrigerator.  Imagine my shock when it wasn't in the holster.  I retraced my steps in the backyard (It was snow covered, mid January if I remember correctly) and finally found it where it had fallen, unnoticed from the holster.

Still have the holster, somewhere.  I'm not sure where it is, but I can darn sure tell you that it's never been on my belt since that day.

Check out these holsters at R Olson Gunleather. I carry a 4" Kimber in the inside the pants holster in the small of the back and like it as much as any I have owned. I purchased mine off Ebay and it was very reasonably priced

I've thought many times about SOB carry. The one thing that stops me is the thought of falling on the gun back there. It could put a serious hurt on the tail-bone. Sean

I have yet to find a comfortable warm weather way of carrying a 1911. The leather in side the pants holster that I have is the best way I have found (I carry it slanted in the center of the back - shirt untucked). I have not tried an outside the pants SOB but wanted to try a Fobus Roto Holster roto'd to the horizontal position but the one I tried said it was for 1911's but it let the Kimber Tactical Pro II move a little, which I was not comfortable with. My Fobus paddle holster is made specifically for the Kimber and it has a much better hold.

I just recently started carrying a 1911 45 and feel more secure with it 'covering my a$$' even though it is a little more uncomfortable trying to conceal.

THE main trouble with sob  carry is this, slower into action you cover more people on the draw including yourself, it is more prone to getting snatched,  it is more apt to be snagged on a chair it isnt easy to deffend from a gun grab should i go on!  and this speaking for  my own  experince having carried  that way before i knew

I can't disagree with that but I still find it the best way to conceal a 4" 1911 without wearing a coat / jacket or fannypack.

I checked out the Milt Sparks. It is very similar to the one I mentioned from Olson Gunleather only it is priced double. Who makes the Versa Max?
If it is an inside the pants also then I think I have about as good as I'm going to get. I think the leather holster from Olson was 42.00 delivered and it is exceptional quality.
