12 ga. Tamer?
« on: June 18, 2009, 10:43:57 AM »

I was at a pawn shop yesterday and they had what looked like a 12 ga. with a Tamer stock. Would that be a factory option?

Any idea what those should go for?

There was only one guy there and he was busy with another transaction that was dragging on so I figured I'd go back later.

Thanks,

A Tamer stock is $35 from Choate plus shipping. With the holder for 3 shells. Not as desirable as a wood stock IMHO. Used 12's with 28" mod chokes go for around $80 plus or minus $20. Or new from Dick's for $110. A slug barrel goes for a A LOT more.

This one had what looked to be a 22" barrel with the hard chrome looking finish on the barrel an receiver. What I'm looking for is the 22" modified barrel.  The hard chrome is a minus for the deal. The stock is neither a plus or a Minus as I could try that stock on a .223 I would prefer pallet wood. I figured if the price was right I'd take it home.

I got my 22" 12ga barrel a couple years ago, through the Barrel Accessory with the old company.  I like it.  The wood stocks are the only way to go.  Those Tamer stocks are brutal on the shoulder with a 12ga.

Are you sure it wasn't a survivor stock? they used to make a 12ga survivor. I have one that i put a regular syn stock on that is my truck/walkin around gun. It's the gun in my avatar pic. Just about perfect for a gun that is going to be carried a lot and shot a little.

I'm not really sure what you call them. It was a plastic stock with a large empty space just behind the pistol grip.

hey rusty,
when you go back to check it out...
take a magnet and check the barrel... it could be nickle plated
instead of stainless. and check the model #, if its a nickle model 258
and you don't want it.   let me know.
thanks

I went back and checked on the way home from work. The frame is marked SB-1 which is no surprise. The barrel is marked "Pardner" and is a 22" Modified barrel. It's in a Survivor stock and they want $149 for it before taxes and background check. When I got to hold it today there is  rust on the inside of the bore around the bore and a little more rust between the hammer and the frame.
He also said that was his bottom line and he's not marking down any guns because they're flying of the place as it is.

I got mine off of Gunbroker for less than that including the shipping and transfer fees.

Of course if I had to replace the one I have now for some reason I'd pay that in a heartbeat.

Well I COULD find someplace else for the Survivor stock if I had it, like on a .223. What really turns me off about it besides the price is the brushed chrome looking finish on the whole thing. The guy's attitude didn't do much for me either.
