To Crimp, or not to crimp? On .45LC
« on: June 20, 2009, 06:38:11 AM »
I know there's a lot of you guys that load your own .45 Long Colt ammo.  What are your thoughts on crimps?  I've been reloading for years, just not the .45LC, but I'm getting ready to add that to the list.  Any other tips or info specific to that round would also be appreciated. Thanks, JR

Crimp all straight wall hangun rounds regardless of what you plan to shoot them in.

Plus 1 there GB. Have been loading straight wall cases including 45LC since 1970. THEY WILL back out on you in a revolver, and push in on a tube fed rifle.

Yes, you need to crimp all .45 Colt cartridges.

Not only do I firmly crimp but I have my expander balls turned down to .005" less than bullet diameter to ensure firm bullet pull. I do the same for my other six(five)gun calibers too. No bullet jump and a complete burn of the stout loads with ball powders.
