;D If you want to sell your magnums you will have no trouble, but selling the 338-06 you will loose your shirt... ;D

I will be using 209 x .50 Encore ML will be my second year since switching from a TC White Mountain Carbine ML. If I had to choose a centerfire rifle I would use my Winchester pre-64 Model 70 30-06.

I'm thinking that when you nail that first elk with it,you will sell your magnums if you have any. ;)  Good choice
Not a chance, I have a 264 winnie my great grandfather built off of a VZ24 in the 70's, its not going anywhere.  Next is my 358 Norma, it sports a fluted 24" barrel and is topped with a Leupold european-30 2-7 German #4, it has an elk engraved on the side of the bell and my initials on the top turret cap.  My wife had that done, the engraving that is, a few years ago for my Birthday.  The Norma was my first semi custom rifle, it has a permanent place in the safe.  Those are the only belted magnums I own.  I've had several others but they have all went on their merry way.   :)

I have owned all the Norma sponsored mags. The only mags I hase left are my CZ 550 in .375 and my mauser 98 in 7x61 Sharpe and hart. Owned a Schultz and Larsen Model 65DL in 358 NM and a 98 in 308 NM. The S&L was o,ne fine rifle that I sold in a moment of weakness. It ended up in Wisconsin somewhere. I traded the 308 to a friend of mine who just had to have it..

My 375 isn't really a "Magnum", its a 375 Ruger Alaskan, 20" mate stainless barrel.  Its a pleasure to pack being stubby like that.  I've got a good load that shoots one hole groups with Hornady 270 gr sp and a healthy dose of RL15.

If I Elk hunt this year (and hope to) My scoped gun will be Mod 70 in 30/06, and open sighted gun will be a traditional ML......54 cal, or 62 smoothbore.

I didn't get out at all in 2009. Had to work too much prepping for the 'permanent' lay off that came the first week in December. Still haven't seen any work, but hope to hunt 2010.

(1) 8x57 Persian Carbine 200gr Nosler Partitions with a bunch of Ball(C)2 over 2400fps.
(2) 356W BB94 228grFPGC cast with H4895 over 2400fps.
(3) 40-82WCF '86Win with 280gr cast with H4895 near 1500fps

My last elk was harvested with a 32WSpl '94W with 182grFPGC and H335 at 2230fps. If I can find one, any of these will get the job done. Season 2011 is all planned in Wyoming! YEAH! #2 daughter is getting married in Denver so I get a two-for!! Actually a three-for, as I get to stay with my #1 daughter and 4 year old grandson for a few weeks between the wedding and the season opener - that will be a Fall to remember!!

Long live H4895. I love this powder. Works good in almost everything I own. Makes my 32 Special sing!

For all of you who are fortunate to draw an elk tag, what will you be using? I am going to use my Swede Husky in 9.3 x57 with Lyman sights and my backups a 30-40 Krag sporter with open sight. My scoped rifle will be a Model 98 in 7 X 61 Sharpe and Hart maggie. Let me know your preferences

Ain't you gonna be awful tired toting 3 big rifles up and down all those  mountains?

Two of them would be sitting in the truck while I make the final stalk, 'cause that's the way it is where I prefer to hunt Wyoming in Area 100.

Well got drawn again.  This time it will be a Tikka T3 stainless in 30-06.  It's accurate and light.  I also may purchase a 300 Winchester in the same package for this bull elk hunt in Nov.

I got laid off in March last year and was offf till Jan this year. Had plenty of time to hunt last year and since I am only 30 minutes from elk I had a GREAT year. Even tho I was broke. Back to work now but my schedule is 3 weeks on and 3 weeks off and my 3 off this year falls perfect for elk and my moose tag too! Life is good in Wyoming.
Perception is everything. For instance, a crowded elevator smells different to a midget.
