EMF Hartford .357

I just bought a Hartford 1892 in .357/.38. Anyone have any experience with Hartford? I want to put a peep on it but haven't even looked to see what's out there. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help guys.

This tang sight will bolt right on the tang of your emf if you get the extended screw set (For Marbles tang sight) from Brownells. Anyone of the first three will work, they are all the same except the last one. I have the rifle version in 44 mag (pre-idiotlawyer safety).  I had my gunsmith drill and tap it for a side-mounted receiver sight--I put on a Lyman but it should have been a Williams FP.  the Lyman and Williams versions mount the same, and both brands as marketed today (sidemount versions) mount in the same screw holes.  I wish now that I had bought that in 357, or maybe 44-40.  I had wanted a short-rifle version for deer hunting--saw one in my gunshop in 45 Colt, but wanted 44 mag since I was already set up to use cast bullets, and had dies and experience in that caliber. Others have posted on this site and have remarked on how good and how versatile the 357 Pumas are.  The Hartfords are basically the same gun as a Puma.  Have you shot yours with the factory sights yet?  Which is it, a rifle or carbine?  Either way, I think you'll enjoy it.

Since that moves with the bolt each time the action is cycled I'd pass on that option. Removing that silly safety so a proper receiver peep can be installed is not a bad idea but putting it in place of that safety seems a really bad idea to me.

That's a good point GB ... hadn't thought of that  I guess you'd be thinking it might snag on the back end of the stroke? Or adjusting the rear sight with each round?

I've owned/used/hunted Model 92's with peeps that were tang-mounted, side-mounted, top-mounted, and bolt-mounted.

A bolt safety replacement peep (below) works perfectly fine, but since windage is adjusted via the front sight, it's a sight better suited for the "set 'n forget" one-load shooter/hunter.
The bolt peep holds zero as well as any other style peep I've ever used.
If the bolt's so sloppy as to move enough for the peep to lose zero, believe you me, you've got a lot more problems than inaccuracy.

Either a Williams 5D-94 or FP-94 (FoolProof) can be side mounted after D/T'ing the receiver side for the sight, or the top rails can be D/T'd for same peeps meant for the Model 92 angle-eject (5D-94AE/FP-94AE), aso below.
