out of practice with the big bores
« on: June 22, 2009, 12:56:55 AM »
Took out my old 475 yesterday. Its been about 3 years since i shot a real big gun and load. With the back surgerys i just havent been able to shoot much let alone the big guns. Gun is a plain jane non barrelbanded 5.5 inch blued gun that John built me years ago. It was getting pretty ratty looking so it went to John for a cosmetic makeover. Only bling on the gun are the sambar stag grips. This gun has been the most consistantly accurate handgun ive ever owned. It shoots most any load into an inch or less at 25 yards. Didnt do that well yesteday though. It has been way to long since i popped a cap on a load that stout. About 1.5 inch was the best i could do. Shot a few groups then proceded to shoot about a 100 rounds destroying any rock i could find. Kind of felt good to shoot a big gun for a change.

Nothing like bustin a cap on a Big Bore. Not to shabby for a 3 year hiatus. It's like riding a bike, you may be a little rusty, but you never forget how. ;)

I know how it is etc. ect.
We can only hope to be as good as our idol "BFRSHOOTER" is.  But alas I have given up on it.
Now I only shoot for fun.

healed as good as im going to be. I have good and bad days. this warm weather lately seems to help alot. I can handle about 2 hours a day doing something like loading casting or shooting then its back to the chair. Some days i have to force myself to get off my but and do something. I could funtion pretty good if i ate all the narcotics they precribe but thats not an option in my life. I like to remember what i did. Some days there a necessity but always a last resort. Nice thing is i dont ever have to worry about going to work so my day is mine. Sure would be nice though to be retired and healthy!!

Good to hear that you are out there enjoying your guns.  I hope that things are better for you these days.

By the way an inch and a half is darned respectable with a gun that size.  I had been shooting the big bores for a while when I realized that the concentration to shoot good groups was quite a significant consideration.  For me, it is a waste of ammo to shoot anything larger than a 44 after an hour or so of shooting.

Percocets eat your stomach after a while; I fear that I did permanent damage to mine, after my spinak fusion.
