Jesse James pistol shoot
« on: September 22, 2003, 09:27:48 AM »
Well I participated in my first cowboy type event this past weekend.  It wasn't a full-fledged CAS shoot, but rather a handgun only event in conjunction with the Jesse James days at Kearney, MO.  I've been watching this board for a while and have been trying to put together a set of guns that I can use for some match shooting.  Considering that I already have the pistols I decided to give it a try.  I was more than a little nervous because I was going to compete with a pistol that I had fired only 10 shots since it was new.  Before that I had never shot a big bore SAA type gun.  So I grabbed my Winchester cowboy ammo and my EMF New Dakota .45 LC and went lookin for a shoot.  Boy was I glad that I did!  I had TONS of fun and managed to win 3rd place among some pretty good pistol shooters.  I think that I shall try to be more ready for next year and not show up so late.  A big thanks to MOGorilla for posting the information here so I could get in on the event.  I think that it has only strengthened my desire to get invoved with this cowboy shootin' thing.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it.  It couldn't have been a better day for shooting, the weather was perfect, now if I could just improve my aim!!!  I think that was my fourth or fifth shoot there.  I have always had a good time.

Next time I'm going to have to make sure I stand upwind from you black powder shooters.  I managed to stand right next to a pard shootin a c&b gun that was belchin' out smoke and the breeze brought it right back in my face so my eyes were waterin' and I could hardly breathe.  That happened on my second cylinder full of shots on that bullseye target...maybe that's why I missed the paper completely with two of my shots!  I gotta find some excuse for that because my pride just won't let me live that down!  :)
