Ok, my 22 Hornet with all your help and the info you maintain has been great, and got me a decent shooter. However, it looks like when I removed all the forearm contact with barrel and breech except at the lug, and a piece of foam under the tip of the forearm where the barrel crosses it as I had read is worthwhile, I think there was forearm contact with the breech that covered up the sloppy connection. I measured the movement and it is 1/16th, very noticeable but can't see any effect on accuracy because it is super tight when locked up.

Just wondering if I need to shim it or will it be OK?...by the way, we have 700+ rounds thru the rifle so far.

If it is tight when closed and the forend is tight on the lug then you could shim the plastic spacer that mates the forend to the receiver.  I had a loose one and put in 3 thicknesses of beige masking tape and it is perfect.  You do need some tension at the lug though.

Action looseness when open is irrelevant, what counts is when it's locked up, you can shoot it without the forend on!! Shooting without the forend on is a good way to determine if the forend is affecting accuracy, usually being too tight is the culprit, too loose isn't usually a problem. If you want to tighten it up a bit, shim between the spacer and the forend on a wood stock as directed in the FAQs, but too tight can cause accuracy to go out the door, if it's a syn stock, you're in for more work.

Dieselten and Tim - I think I will leave well enough alone, as it is shooting just fine and not at all loose when closed. I will kepp your suggestions in my pocket though if for some reason I want to act later on down the road. Thx as usual.
