URGENT: Climate Bill Wins House Test Vote
« on: June 26, 2009, 07:11:33 AM »
House Narrowly Advances Climate Bill to the Floor

House Democrats narrowly won a key test vote Friday on sweeping legislation to combat global warming and usher in a new era of cleaner energy. Republicans said the bill included "the largest tax increase in American history."

The vote was 217-205 to advance the White House-backed legislation to the floor, and 30 Democrats defected, a reflection of the controversy the bill sparked.

The legislation would impose limits for the first time on carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas pollution from power plants, factories and refineries. It also would force a shift from coal and other fossil fuels to renewable and more efficient forms of energy. Supporters and opponents agreed the result would be higher energy costs, but disagreed widely on the impact on consumers.

This thing does nothing to benefit the nation, and the costs per household published there are low. This is a disastrous thing for our economy. If you are currently working in manufacturing, start looking for a new line of work. And don't count on foreigners to invest in ways that help you.

When you hear people complaining about their electric bill, you can ask them if they heard Michael Jackson died.

What a perfect opportunity for the liberal media to ignore this.  Nancy got this hustled right through the house under the radar.  Hopefully it runs into some media coverage and debate in the Senate.

Don't be too optimisitic about that. Assuming it goes before the senate on Friday, July 3rd you can bet there won't be much public interest in the story at that time.

I hoped there was enough common sense to not let this get very far, I should've known better, none of that in DC any more. The worst part about this is it is really just some kind of experiment, they have no idea of the ramifications of this or what the results will be. Resembles another gov't fond of experiments in 30's and 40's :o The average American is sure to get screwed in the end.

The bill that was passed was a bill to get the caps and trade bill to the floor W/O some of the steps a bill must normaly go through. No Sweat this time. When the actual bill comes up that's when the trouble begins. As part of a bargain some congressmen will agree to vote to get the bill to the floor but will not vote for the bill it's self.

Hang 'em all and start over.

Who in hell is surprised by this! He said he was gonna do it! And he owns the media and Congress. the one thing you can say about this guy is that he does what he says he is gonna do! Heck he even does what he says he aint gonna do! Does no new taxes for people under 250 grand income ring any bells?

Mauser:

Actually, I think we're on the road to being fourth world. If this goes into law, then third world countries will have several huge commercial advantages over the US.  This could be great news for countries like Haiti, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, the Bahamas, etc. They can make huge money on things that nobody can make money on here.

Everything is going to get higher. Your electric, gasoline, everything! There is already talk of shutting down refineries across the country. This could be the nail in the coffin. Companies are in business to make money, not support people. Thousands more jobs could be lost. I think green enrgy is great, but don't cut the throats of the hardworking americans, who are supporting their families, and the economy through tax dollars.

If I were a religious sort, I would say that the Lord took Jacko as a way of drawing attention to financial irresponsibility of the highest order.  Our government is trying to emulate Miz Jackson's fiscal policies.

But does she "feel our pain" like Slick Willy did?

Has anyone heard that Michael is dead?  haven't seen much coverage of it...
If anyone else in politics has anything to confess, I suggest they do it in the next couple days.

Well it is official now.  It has passed in the House.  According to CNN...

"A sharply divided House of Representatives narrowly passed a White House-backed climate change bill Friday after hours of cajoling and arm-twisting by Democratic leaders among members worried about the legislation's potential economic and political fallout.

The House of Representatives passes an energy bill that includes a "cap-and-trade" program on emissions.

The bill passed 219-212, with virtually no Republican support."

I hope and pray that the Senate puts up more of a fight.  CALL WRITE EMAIL YOUR SENATORS TODAY!!!!!

Not exactly right.  Eight Republicans voted for the bill.  44 Democrats voted against the bill.  Those eight Republican votes put it over the top.

My Rep response to my letter.

Thank you for contacting me about the American Clean Energy and Security Act, H.R. 2454.  I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue.

As a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee I am playing an active role in charting a new energy future for our country that will strengthen our economy, create new green jobs, and protect working Vermonters and Americans.  I share your concern that Congress address climate change in a way that ensures that consumers and businesses are not unfairly burdened by measures to control carbon pollution.

I voted for H.R. 2454 that sets the goal of cutting carbon emissions 80 percent by the year 2050.  Through H.R. 2454, the cost to consumers of transitioning to a prosperous, clean energy economy will be offset by assistance to local utility companies, investment in energy efficiency, and by direct consumer assistance.  In addition, H.R. 2454 will reinvest American energy dollars currently exported overseas in American jobs and businesses.  A recent Congressional Budget Offices analysis of the legislation determined that the overall cost to households will be less than the cost of a postage stamp a day, which does not include the projected financial benefits from increased energy efficiency, national security and green job creation.

Again, I greatly appreciate hearing the ideas and concerns from Vermonters as Congress continues to debate the most effective approach to address this challenge.  Please continue to be in touch and I hope to see you in Vermont soon.

Sincerely,

PETER WELCH

It's all BS. It's about controling the masses pure and simple and if we stand for it that's exactly what they will do. The ONLY thing that's gonna stop it is another war call it a civil war or a revolution as you wish. It will be very UNcivil and anything short of kicking out ALL in DC today and replacing them 100% with new folks who care for the US Constitution is not enough.

We can transition to a "green" economy without the tax.

1) Natural gas in fleet vehicles to cut imports.
2) Nuclear power plants built to navy standards
3) Coal gasification for synthetic gasoline and diesel to stop imports.
4) Windmills in the plains states.
5) Jumpstart algae production for synthetic fuel.
6) People are already cutting back their driving, thermostats, etc.
7) Diesel vehicle production.  (higher mileage than gasoline, and you get 7 more gallons of diesel refining oil than gasoline, thus cutting more imports.  Germany has 80% diesel vehicle use to cut imported oil).  Why are we not doing this?  Cheaper than hybrids and can be done right now.

This tax will drive high carbon industries out of the country thus adding to the unemployment, and drive up electricity costs for those areas of the country using coal as the primary fuel.  Going to natural gas for electric production is inefficient where natural gas can be used for fleet vehicles.  We have an abundance of coal.
