I think I will end up bolting through the tires and putting nuts on the inside of the fellows.  Should I do between every spoke or every-other spoke?

One bolt put through the felloe at every other space between two spokes, you have 14 spokes, so you'll need 7 bolts.

Dan,

Don't take it to heart!  If Sir Richard meant it his Lionspaw cannon would be unpainted  ;D

Unless he is admitting to flaws in the workmanship......

He's probably hiding coffee stains from where his mug tipped over when he fired the Independence Day salute.   :D
Or else his cannon crew of Ready, Aim and Fire stained it.  :D

Should I do between every spoke or every-other spoke?

Middle of each felly.

GGaskill,

The plans I used called for 8 felloes.  There are 14 spokes.  The center of some of the fellows has a spoke going through it.  It has to be 7 or 14 I guess.

So, 7 - one between every other spoke or 14 - one between each spoke???

Thank you,

NitroSteel

Hey, what goes on here, why the pile up on The Lionspaw? Richard is an elder statesman (n. A prominent, highly experienced older man, especially one acting as an unofficial advisor.) of historic artillery, and as such, should at all times be treated with the utmost deference.

RC, I have absolutely no idea why this comes to mind right now :D, but didn't you once say that it was a shame that your daughter would have absolutely no interest in the legacy of ordnance you at one time planned to bequeath to her?  ;)

All in good fun, Sir Richard has broad shoulders, I just didn't what Dan to have all the fun.

8 felloes, huh?  All the plans I have seen show 7 (or two spokes per felloe if fewer than 14 spokes.)  With 8, all I can say is try to stay toward the middle of the felloe (felly) and use 7 equally spaced bolts.

The plans that I had gave the option of using 7 or 8 felloes.  It took less wood for 8 and I didn't have any extra wood, so I made the wheels with 8 felloes.  Everything is perfectly proportioned, each felloe is just a little shorter (less of a curve cut off of each).  I'll just put a bolt in the center of the felloe in between every other spoke.

I guess the bolt could end up on a joint, but I'll try to figure out a way for it not to.

That was what I was trying to avoid.

I'm not completely finished yet, but here's where I am.  Matched the color pretty good to the cannon in the photo I was trying to copy.  I am VERY happy with the way it is turning out.  All I have left to do (other than create some small pieces of misc. hardware) is paint the ends of the hubs and the bolts that are going through the felloes.
