me and a buddy went out yesterday evening in the 104 degree heat for a hog hunt at DB hog hunting ranch just north of Austin
we each got two small ones.. could have popped a big one but didn't want to pay the
trophy fee as we were on a meat hunt
did stalking through some very, very thick stuff
popped both of mine at 60 yards or so crouching down and shooting under / through the trees/underbrush in the neck
it was quite fun
we drove around and corned the road and drove back around and seeing if we could spot any and get out and go after them in the brush
the guide was a young guy name Jake who was very good
he spotted a hog under the brush that was asleep, a BIG one, I got within about 6ft of it before it jumped and ran off
since it will probably be asked I was using my 5.56 AR with 55 grain barnes Federal load, worked great
I am waiting on my new lighter 6.8 upper and wanted to test the Accupoint 3-9 amber triangle scope I have for it and so used the 5.56
I can't emphasize enough how good of a guy Jake was to work with...
in all honesty I didn't want a guide at all, just point me in the right direction and let me go but he was very good to work with
my buddy got one through the shoulders and one quartering towards him and into the shoulder and exiting the guts.....
what I really liked is NOT sitting in a blind for hours and having only a second or two to take the shot ..
I am the ugly guy on the left, he's the ugly one on the right
