I've also had great accuracy with the Brenneke slugs from a 20ga smoothbore.  I think the ones I have are an older model, if my memory serves me well, they were all the Brenneke Rotweil slugs. I like the gear-like hole they leave in paper. They are hard on deer too, kills with authority.

Take one of those old Rotweillers apart you may be surprised there is a cardboard wad that is held to the bottom of the slug with a phillips screw. Those Brennekes are an awsome round but hard as all heck. The 2 3/4 inch are way plenty and the 3" will just plain tear you up.Kurt

At the price he paid, he isn't using the saboted version of the KO slug...Besides, you wouldn't want to waste the money on sabots in a smooth bore anyway...Just flushing money down the drain.

I shoot the 12GA Brenneke KO Sabots out of my Rem 870 with great consistency and accuracy...I love them.  I can usually find them for cheaper than the other hot rod sabots on the market.  They hit like a ton of bricks too...Hence the name KO...

I don't know about cutting one open.  I only have 4 or 5 boxes of those left from years past.  I think once they're gone, they're gone. Right? I plan on making each and every one of them count. However they are constructed, they sure do work well in my Win 1200. Hopefully I won't have to use alot of them now that I got a H&R ULSH. I agree 100% about how hard and effective they are.

Thanks, Dinny

I'll do that, always worth trying.  I wonder what the deer think for that brief second before they die. "Was I just hit by a gear?" ???

I use them in the 12 gauge rendition in my cut down High Standard pump. Great stuff, they will consistantly hit a bowling pin at 100 yrds if I do my part. Some of the newer ones I have got use a plastic attatched wad in leu of felt but they shoot the same.  BTW, S and B  seem to be a close copy of the Brennekes and they shoot to the same poa, at least for me. I never mess with Forster type slugs anymore.

Dinny, you are correct about the older Brenneke Rottweil slugs (the MP model IIRC), they were GREAT (are great, still have a few boxes I am saving also), much more accurate in my guns than the new KO slugs....<><....:)

MSP Ret,
Thanks for your thoughts.  I am only going to use that gun/slug combo for shorter ranges.  I don't want to waste what little of those slugs I have at the range re-zeroing my gun. 25-50yds max.  I'm hoping to zero it with one box or less, wish me luck.

Thanks, Dinny

Rusty here's a pic of 2 Buckhammers that were recovered 2 yrs ago. Also in the pic is the Rotweiller MP that Andy spoke of they worked great in the smooth bore and an Active that I have not seen for a few yrs but they were very accurate in thier day also. I will post a picture of the early Rotwiellers I spoke of that were what I will call the original I believe before the MP's came out that they were imported and the MP's and later are all US made. They are out at camp and may be able to get out there over the 4th. Kurt

PS we got some big deer up here and it's not like we recover a lot of them but I got maybe a 1/2 doz in the past 25+yrs . I would of thrown out the BuckHammers had I had to trail both those deer very far and found them just under the hide but they both dropped in thier tracks and they shoot well out of the Ultragon rifling.

gendoc I believe you are right can't wait to see your report .I think I would take the KO over the Dangerous game slug on a hogs plate but think this other Dixie slug would give the KO a little run. Kurt

DG 385gr slug on left Dixie 500gr  on right both these are very hard also.

"but think this other Dixie slug would give the KO a little run". Kurt

I would bet that the Dixie has no peer. They are lethal within their intended range.  I wouldn't hesitate to use their 12ga in Africa even on a charging elephant.  Big hogs have fallen lifeless to their lethality.  Pm me for references.

I just wish I could find the right mix to make them work better in my ULSH. I think what I am gonna do is try and work up a load for them in one of my smooth bores. I bought like 300 of them as they were being discontinued I just can't get a shell to shell consistentcy from them even though I take great care in doing every thing the same while hand loading them should be a little easier to come up with a good 60-75 yrd range load for the smooth bores though.Where the 100yrds may be a stretch for the 500gr chunk even out of the rifling. Sometime this month the 20ga slugs will be offered for sale as "factory" loads.  Watch the website.  I will order 5 boxes and post the shooting results from my ULSH sometime this winter after I redeploy stateside.
