AMT Automag hammer spring?
« on: June 28, 2009, 04:11:56 PM »
I need help finding one. Mine is suffering from a soft hammer, and is not firing faithfully. Sometimes it'll fire, sometimes it takes a double strike to fire. I just got the pistol, and haven't messed with it much due to this problem.

The spring measures 1.990" long and .200" diameter. Coil is .040".

Thanks for any help,
                         Jay

I'd try WOLFF Springs or Brownell's.  GL

Before getting too much into replacing the spring I'd clean the piece as there are several things which can lighten the strike and create misfires including damaged firing pins and gunk in the firing pin tunnel.. Clean first and check parts. Coil type mainsprings are very reliable,,usually replacement means it was altered by someone.. If all looks normal remove the mainspring and lay on a flat surface. Coil springs fail un-evenly so the spring will wobble as it's rolled over a flat surface.. If not and it doesn't appear altered keep looking..

Yep, the spring wobbles when you push it hard enough to actually roll. bent pretty good. The firing pin moved very freely. I disassembled the whole slide, and cleaned everything up very well.

Brownell's has the spring I need, and while I'm at it, I gonna go ahead and grab a new firing pin and FP spring too. I figure she's worth the $40 it'll cost. Then I get to see if all the talk about them jamming is true or not. Have yet to have a problem from this one, but haven't gotten to shoot it much either with the whole misfire issue. I'll report results when I get them.

Thanks again,
