.35 Remington plinking loads with jacketed pistol bullets?

Just got a 1967 336 RC with a Microgroove barrel. Came with a 3x9 Bushnell Trophy and since all I can shoot now is paper and woodchucks..........

Have read that cast bullets are tricky. Or not. Anyway, I'd like to start with cheap and low recoil that feeds from the magazine. Have the primers, have the powder, gonna order the rest.

Have read that the 125gr XTP's work. Any other suggestions? With load data?

I use the lead RCBS 200 gr. GC over 40 grs of Varget, easy on the pocket and hits like the hammer of thor.

But you will need a "M" die along with the Lee crimp die along with your regular die. Oh! you might get the odd deer with this round if delivered to the boiler room . Another side benifit - the lead will polish the bore.
I load the 180 speer over 43 grs of BLc2 for hunting,  and can use the same site adjustment for the both loads How better can it get?

I load 158gr Horn JHP's in my 35 Rem using 35grs of IMR 3031. It is very accurate in my Marlin. IF you use this load, PLEASE start much lower and work up. They work fine in my Marlin with no pressure signs. A fine deer load too.

im with happy. cast is cheaper if your just plinking and if  your willing to make your own much cheaper. I use pistol bullets occasionaly to make varmit loads for lever guns but i guess if im going to buy jacketed bullets i figure i might as well buy corelocks for it.

Cast shoots just fine out of my micro groove barrels, and if your slowing them down they should work even better. Don't be affraid to try cast.

Yup, Unique is great for plinking loads. I'm trying to use up 8lbs. of Herco (little slower than Unique) that was bought right. My plinking load for 35 Rem is pictured below. I'm using a 180 gr. cast flat point but have had good luck with 158 flat points as well. This bullet likes 12.5 Herco best and the load is very consistantly accurate - probably more consistantly accurate from range session to session than I am. This "range" of load also works very well in my BLR .358 with slightly mo' powder, Unique or Herco, and probably most anything else that will burn consistantly in small doses and results in about the same pressure. I've not chrono'd the load yet but did use it to finish a deer this past winter that was injured on the road with a dangling front leg. A quartering shot from the rear went through a rib entering, through the lungs and out the far shoulder. It went down immediately and was dead when I (quickly) got to it in case a finisher was needed. Shame - such as waste of meat when they get hit on the road. I like plinking loads.

That 12.5gr load group looks great!  I may have to try some of the plinking loads in my BLR as well as my 2 Marlin 35's.  DP

Thanks, these Marlin will shoot, MicroGroove or Ballard - you just have to fiddle with them a bit. I've retested the 3 loads on the target above a couple times and the results are about the same. There's a definite sweet spot and you don't have to go far to miss it. It's a consistant load and I have alot of faith in the accuracy and point of impact - they don't vary by much from season to season. Don't know why I bother with a squirrel rifle when a .30 or .35 Marlin will do the same thing with the right load. With the .358 BLR, feeding is not real smooth with the LBT-style flat nose but acceptable for plinking. It handles the RCBS 200 gr and a group buy 220 gr slick and that's what I use to hunt, bumping the nose just slightly for a larger meplat. Most everything I've tried feeds very smoothly from the Marlin.  My only .35 is a MicroGroove. I have both Ballard and MicroGroove .30-30's. I guess if I could only have 1 .35 the .358 BLR would be the most logical choice - it will do any and every job OK. I would really miss the .35 Marlin and Rossi .357 though. I'm glad I don't have to make that choice - yet...
