Is it a Spanish 7mm mauser that was converted to 308?

I have one of these in its orginal 7mm and the converted 308 one too.

i just remembered something while i was researching and this is infact a mauser of sorts. i cant set the safety on this gun and i would like anyones opinion on how to fix this. it acts like it is stuck. i can take something and push it back farther and the safety will set but it doesnt work unless i do that.

This is what gunsmiths are for.  I would have it thoroughly checked out before firing it to see if it is operable and safe to shoot.  The price will only be a fraction of what an ER visit would cost.

I agree a trip to the gunsmith is in order. It seems you really don't even know what you have so you are certainly not qualified to judge if it is safe to shoot. It also sounds as if the trigger may have been "Bubbaized" to the extent that it isn't holding the striker back far enough to allow the safety to engage, but that is just a guess.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

the safety problem was my fault i had taken the bolt out and fiddled with it. so i took it out fiddled with it today safety works perfect i had the bolt to loose for the safety to work right. i have some close friends nearby they arent qualified gunsmiths. but they are gun traders that knows these types of guns. i will have it thoroughly checked before i try to fire it. will come backs with pictures soon.

the gun trader friend said he figured it would be safe after his inspection. he also had a way to strap it down for the  first shot to get out of the way when we tried it. it shot so i decided to try about 3 shots offhand and got a 2.5" group at 50 yards. i plan to practice i beleive it is capable of much tighter groups. will get pics if i can find my camera.

so i have had this rifle out and tried all the factory .308 loads i have found in my area. remington corelokt 150gr. winchester power point 150 and 180gr. and federal powershok 150gr. the remington will shoot 1.5" open sights at 50 yards.2" at 100 same with the federal winchester either loading would not even hit a 12" circle at 50. i will get back in a couple days with pictures. as soon as i figure out how to upload them.

lil_hunter12, sounds like you've got yourself a fine deer rifle, just use the Remington CLs. Where are you in the sucker state, I'm in Livngston county, 35 miles north of Bloomington on I55?

im down here in martin county. im trying to figure out how to put pics on here also and looking for a descent gunsmith to drill and tap this rifle for a scope. i think it shoots to high for most of my shooting which will be around 75-150 yards. and sometimes out to 250. i need a scoped rifle.
