question on scope mount screw size
« on: July 02, 2009, 08:12:02 AM »
Hi you all.  I have a rusted in screw in a scope mount on my model 058 handi hornet.  As my first few attempts  at removing were unsuccesful I am down to tapping it out  to get the hole clean. My question is "What size is that screw and what type of thread if one is after a tap. The thread appeared to be different then machine thread when I attempted at the local auto parts store.  If  anyone knows it would be appreciated.  Thank you.

It's probably 6-48, but I don't know that for sure on the older H&Rs, that's what everything is now and has been since 1987. Brownell's has the taps and torx head screws.

A gun is just like a parachute, if you ever really need one, nothing else will do.
