Was planning on hunting Louisiana's primitive season with a .357 (360 DW actually) but was getting different views from gamewardens of it passing the "over .38 rule".  I got confirmation yesterday that they will enforce on the bases of the stamp on the barrel.  Meaning .357 will not qualify.  Odd, if the thing was a .38 Spl I could hunt and wound deer with it.

Now I'm left with getting a new barrel or using my older .44 which measures .432 and is not exactly very accurate.  I remember an older thread where using the cast bullets at .432 proved quite accurate in these things.  So now I have two questions.

Where is the best place to get .432 cast bullets, since I hear Beartooth can take forever to ship?

How is a cast bullet going to work on deer since we are not talking about an expanding JHP but a cast bullet that will only deform at best?

Cast lead bullets of all calibers and shapes have been taking game efficiently for hundreds of years.   The simple flint or percussion rifle shoots soft lead, and it works well.   My hunting buddy used a .44 caliber flintlock long rifle to take the biggest buck(11 pt) on our lease.  he fired a .430 lead round ball in the boiler room.   The deer went about 30 yds then dropped.   

I have taken many wild hogs with the 44 mag and hardcast Keith style SWC's......They don't need to expand, just punch through bone and muscle...

Find a cast bullet that shoots well with your barrel and don't look back.

Thats what I wanted to hear gstewart44.  Now to find a reliable source online for some .432 bullets with gaschecks in the 240 to 265 grain range.

If you find some bullets that match your bore diameter or are slightly bigger you really won't need the gas checks.  I push as cast 250 gr. Keith style bullets to over 1700 fps with no leading in my 44 Handi rifle and with great accuracy.  I have had zero luck with any bevel based cast bullet though.

Rick is your Handi the older .432 or the newer .429 bore?  Also, what powder are you using on those .250 cast?

Montana Bullet has gas checked bullets to .433", there's a cast bullet source sticky in the Cast Bullet forum.

Montana Bullet Works has excellent bullets.  E-mail him and let him know what you need and he will help you pick the right one.  He also has several of the LBT molds to make LBT bullets, not "LBT Style" bullets that Cast Performance sells.  DP
