Hodgdon H4227
« on: July 04, 2009, 08:34:24 PM »
I have been using H4227 with the "Extreme" logo in my .357 with good results. Recently someone gifted me 2 unopened cans of H4227 that predates the extreme technology.

A tech at Hodgdon told me that it is safe to use it with all current H4227 load data. He couldnt say if it would perform the same though.
I am about out of "Extreme" H4227 now.
Does anyone know if the older H4227 will shoot as good as the Extreme stuff?
Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

Actually, there is no way to tell if a different lot of Extreme H4227 will "shoot as good" as any other lot of Extreme.  Each powder is made to a certain tolerance range - and if one lot is at one end of the range and another lot is at the other end - they could have noticeably difference performances.   If you are near the maximum charge weight with the Extreme H4227 powder, drop the charge down a bit when switching to the old stuff.

now if your switching from the old imr 4227 which is discontinued to the new version which is h4227 you may notice a differnce. Both powders are the same now.
