Years ago I bought a Tennessee Mountain Rifle kit from Dixie.
Beautiful kit, very well made, and expensive too.
Oddly enough, the kit was made by the Miroku company in Japan.
Right on the side of the barrel was engraved "Made in Japan."
No way I was going to sit in the deer stand, and every time I looked down to admire my rifle, read "Made in Japan."
I was thinking of Davy Crockett, not General Isoroku Yamamoto!
So, first thing I did was get out the old file and remove that Jap stuff.
Of course, this barrel was sent to me "in the white" and I had to brown it any way.
Still you could buy an Italian repro, file or grind off the offensive lettering, and just get it reblued.
It is fun gunsmithing these guns
I have an 1860 Colt Army by Pietta.
Nice gun, but it just felt barrel-heavy to me.
I got out my favorite gunsmithing tool, the Sawzall. When I was done, the pistol no longer had an 8 inch barrel, it had a 4 1/2 inch barrel.
Bye-bye to the loading lever also.
That gun handles a lot better now.
I just bought a "bluing pen" and blued up the raw metal where I had amputated the barrel, looks fine to me.
