Lyman customer service
« on: July 05, 2009, 06:40:30 PM »
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Lyman's customer service. How are they with part replacements?
Better yet, has anyone had a bad experience with the small screws used to secure the escutcheons?
I had a few snap off about 3/4's the way in. Now they're a PIA to extract without damaging the stock!!!!

Generally speaking Lyman doesn't have customer service. I've heard a few positives in recent years but darn few. Over all they are about the worst in the industry expecting you to pay full retail price plus an outrageious shipping and handling fee even if it's a premature parts failure or something their fault that most companies would cover for free.

I still use their moulds as I like some of their bullets but other than that I have mostly switched to other companies.

what they offer isnt what you'd call CS.  guy waited 3 months for his other type of lyman to get fixed.  Those wedge pin plate screws need to be lubed with soap before installing. I use a small dril bit and go down half the screw into the wood and then use needle nose plyers to unscrew them. You can use an epoxy and fill the hole back up and redrill it.

The words Lyman and Customer Service do not go together.

Long story short - broken firing pin on Lyman Mustang - sent receiver to Lyman for repair - returned to me in only three months and twelve days - not my repaired receiver, but a different receiver, so I now have a receiver with a different serial number from the barrel - the safety did not function on the one they sent me - repaired it myself - pissed.

The screws are still in the stock (heads snapped off)... :(... >:(...My problem is, I can't get them out, there's no room.
I called them today and they told me to send in the stock...i'm not sure i wanna do that now  ???
They priced a new stock at $179.00..................................

you'll need to drill around them as i said before. You just need to make enough room so you can get the needle nose pliers on them.

I bought a used lyman gpr, and it had a cracked stock. I called and the replaced free of charge. They even put a new flint in it, and made a few adjustments. I was very pleased with there customer service.

Unfortunately mine did'nt come cracked, it was more self induced. Besides, I got all the screws out (Thanks bigblock455) and am on my 3rd coat of True Oil. She's gonna look as good as new  ;) ;D ;D
I also bought different screws.
