627-5 cylinder burns
« on: July 06, 2009, 07:52:06 AM »
Took my new 627-5 PC out for the first time yesterday - wow! Trigger was perfect SA and DA. Accurate - loved it. But I now have little carbon scoring patches on the outside of the cylinder 1/4" from the muzzle end. Looks like it flashed off the topstrap which is also very black. A brush cleaned it 90% so before I do more, what haspened? Is it the ammo? My other stainless .357s don't have this scoring.

Thanks, Chaps

All the 27's I've seen have exhibited this trait a bit more than most other .357's. Don't worry about it. Since the gun is stainless, use a lead wipe away cloth.

I agree. It's normal.

Just a thought, is your gun drilled and tapped for a scope mount?  On my mod. 66, and there aren't any screws in the holes flush with the top strap, I have found that I get the same type of burns on my cylinder also.  I installed screws that were flush with the top strap and that stopped the burn marks.

A little Flitz compound on a soft cloth, and some patience is all you need to take that carbon off!

Appreciate the responses ... mine's not d/t for scope mount. I'll give the flitz idea a try!

Get Kleen Bore patchs and it takes it off with ease.
