Are you a dedicated single shot hunter?  Or someone that never hunts with a single shot. only time I carry a repeater is when I just carry  a revolver or if I Find a groundhog I can't get within 150 yards of . I wound put myself at 95% single shot hunter

I guess if I ever get around to any serious duck hunting I will probably take my 870 out and always take out Grampa's old 16ga double on thanksgiving, but I use a single for everything else. During pistol season for deer I use a 44mag encore.

I haven't hunted with a repeater for several years, for many years the only repeater in use was an 835 for turkey, but even that doesn't get used any more, I do carry a side arm repeater tho, but it's not for huntin, just personal defense from two legged critters in general and cougar when I put the dinner bell on making turkey sounds!!  8)

Don't think I've even shot anything that holds more than 1 shell except handguns in over 5 years , just don't see the fun in blasting away if I don't have to .  ;)

Besides it costs too much anymore .

before i shoot, i like to know that i can make the shot.
this causes alot of get aways........but in the end...
meat in tha freezer always wins!!!!!!
one shot is all i need or i won't pull it.

but i do carry my pistola as back-up when hawg hunt'n  :o

i do carry a revolver and i do own a lever gun,  but single shots 95% of the time is how i bring meat to the table.
 and 95% of that time its a NEF / H&R

The only thing i shoot anymore are handis, and my sidekick. I traded my last revolver for a 44 mag handi. Great rifles, they are all I need.

Well I mostly bowhunt, deer, turkeys, small game and such.  When I do hunt with a firearm it is with a single shot only, Topper 20ga.  I've though about handguns for deer and small game but haven't got around to it yet.

The bow and muzzleloader are single shots so I had to count them. I have a full choke Topper 12 that's 25 yrs old that still goes along for pheasants or rabbits. After recently getting into the Handi's I intend to take a deer with the .444 Marlin Ultra this fall in NE, but I'll still carry a bolt .270 most of the time.

For deer I take my Ruger No.1 about 90% of the time and occasionally carry something else mostly for nostalgia sake. 

For grouse and woodcock 75% is with an O/U and the rest with a NEF Pardner, both 20 gauge.

Overall, I guess this would put it close to 60% with a single shot.

I only use single shots, my muzzleloader and my recurve bow.  Now I have my Handi with a new muzzleloader barrel, 20ga rifled barrel and a 30-30 barrel, so that's all I will be using until they or I wear out.  I was never too successful deer hunting until I started black powder hunting back in the early 1980s with my Hawken.  Once I knew I only had one shot, I became a little better at it.

That was my first thought also....I clicked on Spanky's profile to see what state he's from, maybe stop in  :)

Time to put those "repeaters" on the Classifieds and make some extra $$ for more Handi's  ;)

As far as the poll, I do like Handi's and all, but still hunt with them pretty rarely.

I use a pump shotgun when dove hunting and coyote hunting.  Doubles are always possible in those situations.

For everything else, I use a single.

I wouldn't count a Drilling as a Single.
For myself, I can't help but really really liking my Rem 760 and 742 carbines. One round in the chamber and one in the magazine.

I use one to BP hunt as it is the law , had a Ruger #1 in 22-250 for groundhogs but now a repeter . Where i hunt we can kill 2 deer a day . I have done so . The 2 , 8 pointers one 19 in inside spread and the other 20 1/2 in spread would not have happened with a SS . Sold a 300 WM , 708 , 204 and 45 cal bbl. for my Encore when we were allowed 2 a day .

  It weighs just under 7 pounds, i find that just about right for a high powered rifle.  AND, it's about having "choises" when i hunt, and i do!

I like to hunt everything and I am a very avid waterfowl hunter. Last year I hunted with my sigle shot 20 ga only as that was all I could use on Ft Sill. I shot 134 ducks year. I find a single shot makes my hunting more fun and makes a trip last a little longer. I seem to limit out to fast with a repeater. There have been alot of days I have ended up shooting three rounds and getting a limit of geese 10 minutes after legal shooting time. The same thing with ducks. 5 or 6 shots and I am usually done for the day with a limit. last hunting season my two buddies made fun of my single shot. One was shooting a pump and the other an auto loader. They ended up with 5 rabbits between the two of them and I ended up with 8 for myself. Same thing with squirrels. They got three and I got 10. I love single shots.  ;D

Learned to hunt with a single shot shotgun and .22 single shot.

I've hunted seriously for years with my old .303 British and never loaded the magazine with more than three shells.

Then I discovered the Handi rifle about three years ago, and my old war horse is collecting dust.

Once I squeeze the trigger there is never any doubt that the one I just sent down range is all I would need.

My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.
