They make a wire brush that chucks in your drill that has the bristles face forward instead radially like most wire brush wheels. Mechanics used to use them, maybe you can get one at an auto parts store.

Howdy,
This is a problem? I bought a Lee pot new from their surplus store online. It had rust also. Big deal. You should have seen the junk I melted in there the first time out. I've been using mine for ten years with no problems. Remember that your alloy will be heavier than most anything in the pot, so the rust floats. Now, if you get plugged up with bits of gold, let us know where your alloy is coming from!

a few things can cause rust in a pot. Some fluxes like marvalflux (spelling) will cause it. Some soldering fluxs have an acid core and that will add to the problem. Also its a good idea to keep your pot full at the end of a session. If you have rust what ive done in the past is maybe once a year drain my pots and clean them good. I clean and lap the valve and take a wire brush on a drill and clean the sides of the pot real well too. If the rust or crud gets to bad it can cause a heat transfer problem and your pot wont run as hot. Keep in mind that my pots are used almost every day so you might get away with every couple years.

Try a product called "Naval Jelly". I have used it on old hand saws and other items and it removes rust pretty well. May have to do two applications if rusted pretty bad.

Another...."Aluminum Jelly" will polish up aluminum pretty good as well.
