M Pro 7 for cleaning???
« on: September 24, 2003, 06:55:44 AM »
Has anyone had any experience with this product?  Supposed to be non-toxic, clean great, unbelievably good lubrication and rust prevention, and probably cure warts and violent tremors.

Sounds really good, wondered if anyone had any tips.

Aparently the military has been using it with good results, however buying it retail it is extremely expensive.  I was looking for something that would work well with corrosive ammo, and black powder.  I was trying to locate a jug of this spendy stuff and called the local black powder shop.  They told me not to waste my money, and get a jug of Formula 409 for $2.39 per quart, as opposed to about 30 bucks.  The formula 409 works excellent, kills all the salts and cleans really well. I inadvertently discovered that it will also clean wood if you are not careful, but I took off the stock and did a complete job with the 409 on my 1863, took all the nasty black stains off and shows all that nice pretty grain, then I just wiped it down with linseed oil.
Now on the other hand...the MPro7  Ultimate Gun Lubricant claims to be 4 times slicker than teflon, and a little drop goes a long, long way.  It is a water based oil, and I have been using it exclusively to lubricate all my black powder barrels after cleaning.  I have a 12 gauge wool swab exclusively for lubing my sidexside, and a 20 gauge wool swab for my old 58 Springfeild.  The stuff is really excellent, but the cleaner needs to come WAY DOWN IN PRICE.
....make it count

I have used Mpro7 for some time now and have had excellent results with it as a bore cleaner.  I don't know about the "unbelievably good lubrication and rust prevention" part.  If you follow the directions provided, the bore will come clean with little effort.
