Any Bushmaster reviews out there?

I've been trying to research buying a regular Bushmaster target 20" A3.  I can't seem to find a single review out there.  All I want to know is that the Bushmasters with the 20" barrels are capable of shooting less than 1" at 100.  I would plan on putting on a free floating foreend to help get to that accuracy goal, but I can't seem to find any reviews on them anywhere.  I'd like to get it setup just like what I was issued, or at least look close enough.

Does anyone here have a full size bushmaster, and if what's the best accuracy you get out of it?

Almost any name brand AR will shoot less than a inch at 100 with a 18 inch barrel The 20 should just make it easier, Bushmaster make a fine rifle.  IMHO that is.

I have one and I shoot it pretty much every week.  I've installed a timney trigger (3lb) and mounted  6x18 Leupold VX-II Target scope with fine CH and target turrets.  I shoot 68gr Horndy HP Match bullets toppa 24gr RL-15.  1" or less if I don't have too much coffee!

Although not a 20" Bushy, I do have the Varminter with the 24" barrel.  It is a sub moa rifle with handloads and the cheap white box 45 gr hollow points by Winchester. 

BTW, barrel length has little to do with accuracy.  Actually, a shorter barrel is more condusive to accuracy than is a longer one due to barrel harmonics.  However, with a longer barrel, you do gain velocity.

I had a varminter with the 24" upper....I sold that upper and kept the lower and installed a heavy barrelled carbine A3 on it.  I found it to be cumbersome and wish the predator was out when I bought the Varminter.  I then bought the 20" DCMX Match to replace the varminter and am very happy with it!

like was said accurate ars are a dime a dozen. For the most part they all shoot. Bushmaster uses good barrels and if free floated you should have no problem getting moa accuracy from it.

Agreed!  I am designating the Varminter as my benchgun.  I am building a 16" for the maneuvrability.

I've got the M4 bushy with the flattop take off carry handle sight. I put a flip up backup on it and at first put a 2X7 Leopould Vari-X II on it. Very fast on two power. Then I replaced the scope with a 3.5X10 Vari-X III on it. Way under an inch at 100, but too slow. Went back to the 2X7 Vari X II. I put a trigger stop in the rifle and that helped with a little polishing but, I think I too will go with a Timney.

Hi Dee,

The Timney was about $200.  I probably should have gotten a trigger job instead...maybe cheaper...but...I was impatient.  I will say that the trigger on my bushy varminter is fabulous just as it came from the factory....I should've saved myself some money and switched the parts to the DCM (though the Timney is a single stage which I prefer).  The trigger on the DCM was just plain aweful.  I have a DPSM stripped lower that I'll probably build and use that trigger on it.  I think 44MAN has a smith that can rework your trigger for a lot less than the cost of a timney...though...it is QUITE nice!

The guys over at AR15.com love Bill Springfield's trigger jobs.  That's where I plan on sending my triggers to!

drdougrx, thanks for the info. I'll give him a call. I just wonder how he does the job without breaking thru the case hardening. Maybe he re-treats it. I'll just ask.

That's why I don't mess with stuff like trigger jobs myself.....worst think my wife ever bought me was a dremmel......pls let us know how it turns out.

Give Bill a try, at www.triggerwork.net.  I have the 4# pull in my AR and it is great!  But Lloyd recommends getting the 3 1/2# pull as it is cleaner and lighter.  (and WAY less than the $200 for a drop in!)  44 Man

I re-examined the trigger design of the AR, and took it to task. With about 30 minutes of research I found the key, which I had never bothered to look at before. The problem is some what like the 1911 in getting a better lighter cleaner pull. I also elected to install a trigger over travel stop. Mine breaks at about 3 pounds with no over travel at all.
It is amazing that I had never researched it before. Sometimes threads like this make even an ole vet think about something he has over looked for years.

That's funny! LOL! I never tried viagra cause so far I never needed it. However, that trigger is a piece of cake once you figure out the angle. I had not spent much time on them other than a trigger stop and some polishing. It's a five minute job once you have it broke down. Of couse the polishing I had already done. Think I'll skip the Timmney drdoughrx.

teddy 12b......I have add enjoyable success with my Bushy V Match.
I shoot mostly my handloads using H322 powder and IMR4895....Here are a few examples of my groups....which  are pretty much the norm when I do my part





 

I bought my rifle off of a good friend. He did put a target triiger on it but I cannot recall the brand.
