Tamed my .375H&H

On a previous thread I mentioned that I bought a Nikon Omega 3-9X Shotgun scope for my Ruger #1, .375H&H. Some asked me to post my results after I get some range time with it. Well the report is great! I have never been pleased with the 2"+ groups or the occasional bite of scope with less than 4" of eye relief. I believe that no matter how I tried I was flinching, not to protect my shoulder but my face. The Omega has an incredible 5"+ of eye relief and I am now consistantly getting 1" groups with the same loads I used before. I am sold on this scope.

I put a Leopole 2X7 on my 375 H&H. It works fine. I guess you can put any scope you want so long as it doesn't brake. Leopoles can take the punishment.

V-Man,

     Do you handload?  If so try 72 grains of IMR 4064 and a Hornady 270 grain bullet.  This should drop those groups down.  I am running sub-moa with mine.

I thought the Nikon Omega was a muzzleloader dedicated scope, with elevations from 100-250 yards? Do they make more than one?

1. They do make it without the Ballistic drop markers which I would prefer but that one wasn't on sale.
2  Mine has the drop markers but on the 300 yard range it was no problem do determine what range each marker represented with my particular gun/load combination. (ex.200yd marker is really 275 for me, etc.)
3 - You don't have to use the markers if you don't want to.

The 5" eye relief and the durability of a "shotgun/BP" scope makes it ideal for my purposes and my groups have now shrunk to about 1 MOA.

Hmmm I have just been reading Townsends Whelan's  "Telescopic Rifle Sights" the 1944 print and he mentions the 2 1/2"-8" eye relief provided by the Zeiss, Hensodlt and Lyman scopes of the day. One wonders how far we have really advanced in some areas  ???

Anyway it sounds like a nice setup you have  ;D
