reloading .32 S&W ctge

Any advice on a good handload for the venerable .32 S&W? Can I use .32 H&R Mag dies?

yes to the 32 mag dies. load depends on what your shooting them in. my old lyman43 edition starts at 3 grains of unique under a 95 grain lrn. It is wise to use more than one source of reloading data. Later

On your dies, its a yes, but you cannot crimp the S&W or the S&W Long with the H&R die.  A better way to go is to use .32 ACP.  With these you can load ACP, S&W, Longs or H&R by only switching shell holders and adjusting the crimp die to length.  Recheck you cartridge again.  Data between the S&W (short) and the S&W Long is not interchangeble.

I think most of the .32 Mag dies are made for use with the .32 S&W long and the longer .32 H&R Magnum. Most likely yours are also and thus can be used just fine for both.

Concur with Graybeard, most .32 dies these days are for both the .32SWL and the .32 H&R. 

As to "a good handload" the Lyman manuals are a very good source of loads.  A mention of what type of .32SWL handgun might bring more specific responses.

The gun I am loading for is simply a 32 S&W, the short one. It appears to be the third variation, for smokeless loads, made about 1905+-

Sorry, I was thinking of the S&WL.  The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook has loads for 77 & 84 gr cast bullets in the .32 S&W. A friend uses 1.3 gr of Bullseye under Speer 90 gr swaged HBWCs in his .32 S&W.  He seats them so the case mouth is very lightly crimped in the front canelure groove.  Lyman lists 1.4 gr of Bullseye as max for the 84 gr hard cast bullet.  I do know the Speer and Hornady swaged lead HBWCs are very accurate in my little M30 .32 S&WL.

I shortened his .32 S&WL/.32 H&R seating dies so it would crimp the shorter cases.
