thats fantastic accuracy for a #1, especially for the beginning stages of break-in.
I hear that a lot from people claiming the #1 rifles are not accurate. I have five all bought used all but one in bad repair.
Stocks broken, forearms butchered by the worst kind of accurizeing, shameless improvements.
I have developed an accurizing system that has not failed me on my five rifles. They all shoot with the best of bolt action hunting rifles.
The 6.5x284 started out as a 243 #1B and was rebored and rechamberd by Ron Smith. The barrel has 1-8.5" twist. Ron's rebored barrels are match grade quality. Over the years I have used his barrels on several hunting rifles. He also rebored a couple of H&R Ultra barrels for me.

I use mostly a spoke shave to get rid of excess
wood. One thing about this rifle it came with very nice wood.
I only buy used #1's if they have nice wood.
