After I finished working out what a 22 Hornet can be easily rechambered to: K Hornet, 221 Rem Fireball, 222 Rem, 22 PPC and 22 BR Remington (all except the K Hornet would require an extractor change), I got to thinking about other calibers, but they would seem to need a serious barrel refit as well as the rechamber. They would be 243 to 6mm PPC and 6mm BR Rem, and 7mm-08 to 7mm BR Rem. Is the kind of barrel refit that would be required common, rare, cheap or expensive? Thanks. The reason to contemplate doing this is because it is there! ;D

If the donor barrel chamber specs are larger than the intended rechamber in any dimension, it won't work, it's not practical to removed the underlug and weld it back on. You're better off either reboring and rechambering a smaller chambered barrel like the Hornet, or having a stub done which is covered in the FAQs. Either way, you're looking at $300+ the cost of the donor parts.

Thanks Tim. It would appear that doing this to a Savage bolt would be a simpler proposition mechanically, either way, the total $ investment seems like it is about the same.
