45 Super
« on: July 12, 2009, 01:32:03 PM »
Anybody have any thoughts on converting a 1911 45 ACP to 45 Super?  I have found articles that said it is as easy as changing the recoil and firing pin springs.  Profession gunsmiths do alot more than change 2 springs and charge a lot more money.  Would like to hear from anyone who has a 1911 converted to 45 Super and how it went for them.  I don't want to do this and have it destroy my gun in a few hundred rounds.

thanks

Good Synopsis of the 45 Super     http://www.acecustom45s.com/45super.htm .....but probably a little biased.

It seems AC recommends their kit be installed by a gunsmith. Preferably theirs. Don't see the need as all the parts are easily installed by pretty much anyone. Haven't played with it due to lack of interest. Still it's an option for those wanting more power from the 1911 that don't want to go with the .400 cor bon or the 10mm. One thing that bothers me about the Super is that the loaded rounds can be chambered in any other .45 acp. I'd use a full size all steel pistol for the conversion for sure.
