how many of you guys experience misfires? i been working with the 6tcu lately. i just started with 20 cases used over and over, for two reasons. i wanted to see how long the cases last, and also limited range time, since i'm also working with my 6br encore barrel. anyway, after about 3 loadings i started to have about 3 misfires out of 20 in the 6tcu. i was partial sizing, until the neck was sized just short of the shoulder. on the 4th loading, the misfires were much more common. probably up to about 8 of 20. i immediately knew the possible problem. the shoulders needed pushed back.

so, i took the barrel off the frame, and checked with a feeler gauge to get a estimate of how far the case was sticking out. it looked to be about .010". i then adjusted my size die down until the case was only sticking out about .002".
went to the range yesterday, and not a single misfire. accuracy was also greatly improved. :grin: only thing, i'm still not satisfied with my formed 6tcu contender and 6br encore groups

. the search continues for the ultimate target/varmint load. at least i have a 80gr deer load for each that gives acceptable accuracy. :grin:

case life does seem to be doing ok so far. much better than i figured with max loads.

I always size them so that they will just fit flush with the barrel for my 7 tcu. That way no misfires and no head seperation from pushing it back too far. I do the same for the bullet seating to put them about 2 thous off the lands. Works great for rams at 200. Dan

Glad to see someone else has to bump the shoulder after 3 loadings. My 708 needs a nudge too otherwise it won't close very good and and accuracy get's crappy. Never had any misfires though. I know many have stated that a tight fit is better but I have actually gotten better groups with full sized brass and bullets NOT close to the lands. Go figure.

Hmmm...I have 708 brass that I have fired at least 7 times. Never had any problems with the primers or accuracy. Of course all the TC barrels are not necessarily the same either.

longwinters, how close to max are your loads? maybe they are light enough to not stretch the case enough. :? evidently the frame also flexes some, as i had heard. looks like it would have to, if my cases were sticking out .010". i know the barrel to frame gap is not that much. i'm always a little skeptical on things i read on the internet. when it actually happens to me, then i'm covinced. :lol:

I have the same problem with a 35rem barrel unless I full length size. I believe if the case fits the chamber too tight it will not lock up properly and you get light firing pin strikes. At least this has been my experience. KN

KYODE, I went a few discouraging rounds with my 14" 6 tcu before I finally found out that it will shoot. I found that speer 70 grain tnt hollow point bullets are deffinitly its cup of tea. dont know why, it just dosn't seem to like boattail bullets.

Kyode, youre right. I shoot 140 gn Noslers with the min load of IMR 4350. They group fantastic and I see no need to shoot the hotter loads listed .. . so my brass doesnt stretch.
