« on: July 14, 2009, 01:37:05 PM »
Hi guys, my first time posting here.  I seen a post from a guy in Ohio and he had lots of replys so i thought we should try it here in PA.

Where is everyone from in PA? where do you Hunt? Fish?

I'am from Clearfield county, Morrisdale. (just north of P-burg).  I have a hunting / fishing camp in north central PA in sinnemahoning S.P.

I've lived in Kalifornia for 35 yrs but grew up and hunted around Mansfield,Pa in Tioga county...my family belonged to a hunting and fishing camp called Lone Camp, about 2 miles from Cedar Run,Pennsylvania in Lycoming County.....back in those days northern Pa was excellent for whitetail deer hunting....but i don't know what it's like back there now..........

I live in Chester County now. Grew up in Lehigh County, and have lived in Berks and Bucks as well.  I hunt Tioga, Centre, Lehigh, Carbon, and Pike Counties.

I live in Eighty Four, Washington County.  Great deer and turkey hunting in my back yard so the family and I generally stay pretty close to home for those species.  It seems every year or so another house goes up and that has cramped us a little bit.  I'm thinking about checking out some of my old hunting hot spots in Greene Co. this year.

I do make an annual trek up to Benezette (Elk Co.) to hunt bear at my buddies camp.  Used to go up to those mountains several times a year for deer, turkey, and trout.  Don't do that anymore, but sure do miss it!   >:(

Went trout fishing this year for the first time in about 15 years.  Went to Laurel Hill Creek, I think we were in Fayette Co.  Nice country!

Hey 84jim,

Have you ever stopped at the Medix hotel for a burger while in Benezette?

;)While, I don't live in Pa. I have hunted Armstrong, Indiana, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, and maybe a few other counties in Pa. over the years. Most of my fishing was in Sinnemahoning, and Mahoning creek in Indiana county. If I return for any hunting this fall in Pa. it will be near the ne corner of Indiana and Clearfield counties. Still have a few relatives and friends there, so will probably hunt it a few more years. The hunting has slipped greatly even  in the :( last 10 years.

Harrison City. Yeah....we recently got 3 more red lights. Now we are up to 5. Whaaaa...Hooooo!!!!!  I generally hunt around New Alexendria, near the Loyalhanna Dam http://www.lrp.usace.army.mil/rec/lakes/loyalhan.htm

We have a variety of game to hunt. There are black bear "out there" as well, bobcat, coyote, fox, turkey, possum, groundhogs, deer of course. I'm just scratchin the surface.

Of course, it's not like you can step out of your truck, take your gun and shoot the game of your choice. There may be times when that happens, but those times are few and far between.

But, I do like it here. There are other good places to hunt across this wonderful country. But this one is also a good one too.

New Tripoli, I hunt small game mostly on SGL 205, big game on 380 privet acres 60% agriculture and 40% managed for wildlife. I also go to Michigan to hunt  with uncle Ted every year, and like to go on at least one  trophy big game hunt somewhere in the world-next year Africa ,Zimbabwe going to take my life long dream hunt to face the black death, just like my grandfather did in the 20’s using his Rigby 460 nitro express side by side!

Bolewine,

We want pics. And we want 'em posted here on the Pa. board. (Notice how I speak for all Pa. posters here? I got that authority from no one. I just seized it from thin air. Like our chicken eating fat Governor Eddie.) But I digress.

I'd love to see pics. I hope you get one. Love to see pics of the gun 'n cartridges.

halwg, you face a cape how was it? by the way my mistake it's a 470 rigby nitro express made for my german grandfather 1n 1918, right now its locked in a bank vualt because of it's value. it was reproofed by j.rigby&sons in 1961 to shoot modern ammo. 1965 was grand pa's last trip Africa. with Safaris in 1919,21,29,38,39,40,55, 60, 65. this will be my first!

Jim,

Your north of Pittsburgh. Mercer is a great place in Pa. My grandparents had a farm right outside of Connueatt Lake when I was a youngster. Spent many a summer up there and many a hunting season in those woods.

Hello JLR,
ChrisO here. I'm in Washington Co.  My 13yr old boy shot another Groundhog today with his New England single shot .22 mag.  Made a nice 80 yard 1 shot kill, sitting with his elbows on his knees.  Proud of that boy !

While I'm in Michigan now....been all over the US.  Grew up next door in Venango county.  I could literally throw a stone into Mercer county.  Then I would have gone to Lakeview schools instead of Polk and Franklin.

Ya know....it's hard to hit those 'hogs @ 30 yards....and easier to hit 'em at 200. I dunno why....but that just happens.

Remember....tell your boys to pick out a hair on the hog's shoulder and aim for that....don't just aim for the hog.  Aim small....miss small!!!

(And don't ask me how many I missed this year!!!!)

:) Puma, my folks were from the Gipsy and Cherry Tree area in eastern Indiana county. ;) Have spent a lot of time in Elk Co. Usually get to St. Mary's when I am in Pa. for an extended time. As time goes on, it is more difficult to stay there and visit due to a number of circumstances. Elk C. is a pretty place. Also spent some time over in Clinton C. and of course Clearfield. Last trip, found a neat gunshop in Emporium, Pa. But it was sort of a long range shooters shop. Since you like the .44-40, that probably wouldn't be your cup of tea. Pretty country all of it. :D ;) :)

The 44-40 is my deer gun, I have some nice bench rifles in .223,22-250-.308,ect.

I drilled alot of gas wells around cherry tree and mahafy area.
