Thanks Tim!  Think I would have learned to use enough lube by now!

Stuff happens, I stuck a 221 Fireball case in die last weekend, found one with a split neck after I sized it, replaced it with a fresh one, forgot to lube it!  ::)  ???

This is an easy fix.  Drill a hole in the case head slightly larger then the primer pocket.  Tap the hole.  Buy a bolt with the same thread size, and about 5, one inch round washers, with a big enough hole for the bolt.  Thread the die into your press from the bottem up, so that the case head is well below the top of the threads on the press.  Stack your washers on the top of the press, and thread the bolt through the washers, and into the tapped hole in the case head.  Tighten it down until the case comes free.

A word of caution:  Buy the best grade bolt you can.  I made the mistake of using a regular grade 3 bolt one time, and broke the bolt off.  I then had to re-drill the case to get the bolt out, and tap to a bigger thread size.

I only reason I recomended more washers is because they will cup inward if you really stuck that case in there good.   The socket trick works good otherwise.

i prefer the 1/4-20 tap drill and tap from the hardware 5.50 with taxes add 25 cents for the bolt and washer. but then i'm cheap.

Yep.  Especially on the lower case body, down where they get stuck.
