I'd have to vote 30/30.  its what I shoot at short range well.  and it shoots real nice out of a handi

My first response was the 22Hornet. Its done the lions share of pest removal for the almost 80 years!!!

BUT, then I saw you added the 17HMR to the list.... When weighing the cost, noise, accuracy and overall performance of this great little cartridge, I had to choose the 17HMR.

Biggest diffrence between the two I can see is the hornet can be reloaded. That's a big selling point to me. Otherwise I would have voted .22 mag.  Cast your own bullets and a hornet can do what's asked of it really cheap. 8)

True enough Bob!! But I haven't seen a Hornet that shoots nearly as well as any of my 17's!!   ::) ::) ::) :D ;)

I wish 45-70 was in there. Medium load with a big bullet should handle predators of any type.


i voted 223 , but i will say that for just out the back door shooting at ramdom game 45-70 giuld gun get the call most of the time , i think just because it closest to the door  but for what its worth
curiosity killed the cat , but i was lead suspect for a while
