another question about lapping a 22 rimfire
« on: July 16, 2009, 11:14:05 AM »
Hi Veral, i want to lap my 22 rimfire rifles and they are dirty having between 500 -2000 rounds through them . my question is do I need to clean them before I lap them ?and can copper washed bullets be used for lapping or is  lead without a wash the best for this purpose ? Thanks ,Craig

Lapping is going to clean like no cleaner ever made.  Just start lapping if you can't see visable lead in the bore.  If there is visable leading in the barrel, remove it with a strands of copper or brass kitchen scrubber wrapped around a wornout cleaning brush.  It will only take a few strokes.  This is also the best way to remove lead from any gun used to shoot lead, which has a leaded bore.
I answered your second question in your other post.  The copper wash on 22 RF ammo won't hurt lapping, but the best lapping ammo doesn't have copper wash.
